Looking for info on seasonal camping in Fla

Recommended Posts

We will be checking into the Fort on Nov 3rd and staying until the 14th. We are planning on leaving our RV in FLA  at a resort. We are in the process of selling our home in CT and making the move. We will need a park that accepts small dogs. Any comments on good or bad experiences will help greatly.

Thanks

Bob

Theme World is a  mostly snow bird RV park.  We stay year round.  It's a nice park and only 15 minutes to Disney, straight up I 4.  It is very active in winters with food days and games and all kinds of special events.  Price is reasonable but depends on when you start.  It drops in May if you stay longer.  Nice pool too!  If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Fort Desoto is a county run park and is not a long term campground.

From their website

• From January through April, occupancy is limited to 14 nights in any 30-day period. From May through December occupancy may be extended for an additional 14 nights depending upon availability of campsites.

Well, since the op isn't around to answer the questions, its a shot in the dark as to what exactly they are looking for.

Theres Le Lynn RV resort in Polk City, about 30 mins from Disney

Theme World as mentioned above

Lake Magic 6 miles from Disney

Sherwood Forest about 15 mins from Disney

All about the same. Just depends on what you are looking for.

I agree that Fort Desoto is really nice. Some of the sites are tight and others you simply can't get in if you have a larger rig. Suggest noting the easier access sites on your first trip so you know what to reserve for the next trip. Making reservations is easy however any changes, cancellations or needing "service" of any kind is a real pain since the county employees very rarely answer the phones. I believe they allow reservations up to six months in advance. The place fills up quick and you pretty much need to make reservations 6 months in advance. No sewer hook ups in you site. Water and electric only. The restrooms and shower stations have always been clean. All of this being said Fort Desoto is a really nice place to go!
