Season pass or not? Break out your calculators!

Here's my question. We were talking about this at Lorna's Moho last Christmas and I think it was carol that was telling me about it, but I can't find the info I'm looking for. We are planning a trip to the world for December 28 2013-January 4. 2014 7 nights. We are going for 12 nights in may/June 2014 and then we will probably go again for Christmas 2014. I remember a discussion about buying a regular ticket and then converting it to a season pass towards the end of our trip. I'm not trying to cheat the system I'm just wanting to get three trips on one season ticket.

We don't park hop but we are planning some waterpark time in may/June. So if i can only get two trips out of a season pass its probably not going to be worth buying them. Or am I wrong? Any suggestions?

We usually do two 14-night-each trips on each AP.  We were trying for a third trip this year but my father fell and ultimately passed away and we had cancel the last one.  It's definitely worth it for us!  We go to a park nearly every day, even if only for a couple of hours.  Generally the only time we have a fort day is when we go to Lakeland to visit my aunt and uncle.  And even then, if we get back early enough we'll hit a park for a short visit.

Plus, if you don't have an AP you can't purchase a Tables in Wonderland card.  We usually almost break even on our TIW card during the first trip but save on the second.  But we don't eat out as much as a lot of people, and there's only two of us.  The break-even point on TIW is $500.

One thing you need to look at carefully is the cost of an AP versus a Premium AP, which gets you into the water parks.  If you will only be going a day or two, that option may not be worthwhile.

With that many trips/days planned within a 12 month period, I would think for sure that an annual pass would save you a good bit of money.  And you can upgrade your December/Jan tickets to an AP any time within 14 days of first use.  No problems there, you just pay the difference.

So... let's assume no park hopping and an adult ticket (incl. tax)...

Dec/Jan 7 days

$329

May/June 12 days... max # days on a ticket is 10

$361 (and that leaves you short 2 days)

Total $690

Adult Annual pass is currently

$648

So without even factoring in the Christmas 2014 trip, you're already saving some.

And... that gets you unlimited park hopping plus AP discounts on merchandise and some dining.  Also gives you the ability to buy a Tables in Wonderland card ($100) which would save you 20% on all table service dining (and some counter service) for the year as well.

To use the AP for the Christmas 2014 trip you'd need to get that in prior to 12/18 when your AP would expire.  But any days you're able to use at that point just means you save even more.

You can get a TIW card without being an AP holder if you are a FL resident. It's $125 vs the $100. I guess that is one perk that is still good for living in FL at least for now

Another perk is you can pay for your AP with monthly payments. So you pay the cost throughput the year rather than all at once. And its a discounted rate.

It's discounted if you make payments?

I don't see that. Do I have to go to the parks to get those or can I order online?
