BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023 Posted July 10, 2013 Report Share Posted July 10, 2013 Testing has been going on for the past couple of months for using the new FastPass+ system for lunchtime dining at Be Our Guest in the New Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom. For anyone that's tried to each lunch there, you'll know that the line can get quite lengthy and the wait (in the hot sun) very long. Here's how the testing has been working so far... Testing has been open to randomly selected Guests at the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. Guests selected receive a FastPass+ card at which point they can select an arrival window and order their meal online. Once they arrive at MK, Guests will check-in for their arrival window at City Hall. Guests are then given a yellow "magic" rose, similar to the red roses Guests are given when they order their meals at BOG. Guests participating in FastPass+ for BOG may pay for their meals with their KTTW cards, DDP, credit cards and Disney gift cards. Guests who wish to pay cash may select an arrival window, but will need to order their meals and pay upon arrival. Guests participating in the testing are allowed to select one arrival window during their stay. The arrival windows are limited and subject to availability. Guests have the option of an early, mid or late lunch arrival window. Arrival windows are offered from 10:30am to 2:30pm, subject to availability and each is 15 minutes long. Guests with special dietary requests due to allergies can still participate in the program but instead of pre-selecting a meal from the set menu, they should request to speak to the chef or manager on duty when they arrive. Guests may change their order online at any time prior to the start of their arrival window. If they wish to change their order after arrival, they can do so at one of the self-service kiosks or with a Cast Member. There is no official word yet on if/when this will open to all Guests or possibly expanded to other restaurants. Additional information reported by the Disney Food Blog...Be Our Guest Restaurant Pre-Order Systemwhen a guest is selected to take part in the testing process, he or she is given a card with a registration website and reservation number. The guest logs into the website (with their DisneyWorld.com user ID and password) and chooses an arrival time for lunch. The guest then is (sometimes) offered the option of choosing a “FastPass+ Direct to Table” option, or a “FastPass+ Expedited Arrival” option.If Direct to Table is chosen, guests will proceed to pre-order the meal they would like at Be Our Guest Restaurant for lunch. Screens pop up on the computer that are similar to the kiosk ordering screens at Be Our Guest.Ordering via kiosk at Be Our Guest Once your meal is chosen, you’re good to go! If you choose the Expedited Arrival option, you’ll still need to order your meal with a cast member once you arrive at Be Our Guest for lunch. (Check out our Be Our Guest Restaurant Lunch Review here if you need some ideas of what to order… .)Check-In and Arrival for Your Be Our Guest MealGuests are given the option of checking in for their lunch at City Hall in the Magic Kingdom, or at FastPass machines near the Mickey’s Philharmagic attraction in Fantasyland.When checking in, guests will give their card and reservation number to the cast member. The cast member will then give the guest a plastic yellow rose that contains all of their pre-order information. (These look like the red roses given to guests at Be Our Guest Restaurant with their lunch orders. The rose is basically a system that allows your food to find you when you’re sitting down in the restaurant.) When the arrival time opens, the guest will bring the rose to the Be Our Guest Restaurant check-in desk at the end of the bridge to Beast’s Castle and will soon be escorted right past the throngs of people waiting in line to eat. Payment is made via Key to the World card with a cast member before entering the restaurant. They've never eaten there, so I'm really happy for her. She's only there until Monday and offered to wait for us tomorrow, but I don't think we'd get to the MK in time. I can't imagine that this "perk" would ever be offered to all WDW resort guests, and it certainly will never be offered to Joe Schmo who stays off-site. The way they are running this test is just more evidence to me that Fort Wilderness guests are going to get the short end of the stick when FP+ is fully implemented. I think the Fort gets a pretty good deal on transportation compared to the other resorts, and up until now, amenities like EMH's have been the same for Fort guests. While I think they should have done more when the Fort's pool was refurbished a few years back, at least the Fort has a slide, splash zone and hot tubs, which none of the value resorts have. But, as this FP+ gets rolled out, bit by bit, it certainly appears that there will now be a hierarchy on how guests are treated, and the filthy campers will be the lowest of the low. I could be wrong though. But if they offer me one tomorrow, I'm taking it! Hey, from what I've heard about pricing, I'm getting to stay at the Poly for about what the Fort will cost Easter week. As far as the hierarchy, haven't they already started that with free dining? The Fort gets no free dining. The values get the CS plan, and the deluxe get the regular plan. I personally don't view "free" dining as a perk, so it doesn't bother me, but I know it bothers a lot of people. The obvious purpose of the FP+ program is to extract as much money out of each guest as possible. Below are all the dinner choices with prices. When you compare one overpriced restaurant to a super overpriced restaurant, it looks good.If they can give at least a 20% discount to over 66,000 CMs, plus whoever they bring, and probably still make a profit, what does that tell you?
