    More dogs go missing around the July 4th holiday than any other time of the year. Some are sadly never found. One of the local "missing dogs" groups around here has reported that 8 dogs that went missing last year were never found. I have friends whose normally very reliable dogs have bolted during fireworks (or thunderstorms) this time of year - one was missing for several days and then thankfully found hiding in a swampy area covered in burrs.
