  1. When we were there over Mother's Day weekend, the 100 loop and I believe 600 loop were totally empty. They then came in and sprayed asphalt sealant on those loops. We were back a couple of weeks later, and while open, the 100 loop smelled like freshly laid asphalt. Perhaps these loops are the next in line.
  2. You just give them the phone number you used to sign up. They punch it in and verify. If something is wrong, you can just use your phone and sign up there again.
  3. We stay there a lot during weekdays. A year or two ago, it was pretty empty during the week. Now there is a big difference. While there will still be empty spots, there are many more sites occupied. As an estimate, a few years ago, on a Wednesday, the 200 loop (where we normally stay) would be about 40% full. Now it has been 70-80% full. The sites start to fill Thursday and Friday, especially Friday. Then a large drop off on Sunday and a few more on Monday. So it seems now that Tuesday and Wednesday are the leaner days, but not like a couple of years ago.
  4. I was wondering the same thing. I assume "2 new loops" would not include 1100, since that is an existing loop, but what you said is certainly possible. Are all of the other cabin loops refurbished? I also keep wondering about those conduits that were placed under the walkway to Wilderness Lodge. It wouldn't make sense for them to be running services TO the new villas since everything would be right there at the Lodge already. However, all of that empty land across from the large group camping area (also across from the 2000 loop) could be developed into a new loop and those conduits m
  5. Just drove home from work, driving from East Orlando (near UCF) to Clermont. Hit one area of heavy rain, but that's it. The storm is moving pretty quickly so hopefully tomorrow will start to clear.
  6. That was the case until a short time ago. The construction trailers that were taking up several parking spots in both the guest and cast parking areas have been moved or reduced in number. Last week, I held up my driver's license as I was pulling in and the guard just waived me through without even asking where I was going. I too was not allowed in a month or two ago, but now it seems to be much different. Of course subject to change. Your experience at the Polynesian on 4th of July applies all around the Magic Kingdom area that day. That whole area becomes a mess.
  7. It's always easier to get into the Wilderness Lodge parking lot. Just park there and ride the bikes down the trail running to Fort Wilderness.
  8. Went over to Epcot last Friday to see the Spinners. They were excellent as usual. One of the original members of the group can be seen starting at the 20 second mark (when you can see all 5 singers). He is the singer on the left and is 78 years old! I hope I can move like that when I'm 78 because I certainly can't at 56.
  9. Back then, we just wondered what the star and number sign keys were for!
  10. They take you to different areas by walking through areas of the safari and also by a smaller more open truck. You then stop for lunch in the Savannah. At the various stops, they discuss that particular area.
  11. My uncle worked for the phone company. He got one of the first pushbutton phones. We were trying to figure out what the # and * buttons would ever be used for. We couldn't imagine a use.
  12. The people walking across the suspension bridge are on the Wild Africa Trek. My daughter and son in law paid for my wife and I to do that last year as a Christmas gift. It is outstanding.
  13. I had to run the string between two cans to talk to my cousins! In the snow! Uphill both ways! I do remember my Aunt's party line with no dial on the phone. You had to pick it up and tell the operator who you wanted to talk to. All of the phone numbers started with a word, such as Hazelwood 9-2222.
  14. Much of this is also caused by the Facebook mentality of flooding the Internet with selfies.
  15. When you check in, be sure to let them know you sent in a site request. It may or may not be noted on your reservation.
  16. It could change from a sponsorship to a maintenance contract.
  17. Everything is still working. Checked in yesterday. At check in, the cast member read me my primary and secondary choices for the request. I could see on the screen that all of the important info from my fax was entered. I've noticed that if I don't say that I requested a site and if it is available but not ready I'm willing to wait, I get assigned a different site. I think the priority is to minimize your wait unless you say you are willing to do so. Yesterday, we waited about an hour. It may have been ready sooner, but after an hour without a text message I walked to the Outpost and was
  18. We're at the Fort this week taking my mother in law camping for a bit. We've all seen people that leave their "scare lights" on at night. While heading out to work from the camper this morning, I saw these people who take it to a whole new level (that's one of those big halogen shop lights):
  19. My wife and I were standing in that line for the free cupcakes. It moved much faster than it appeared and they were able to keep people moving. The were working very smoothly inside, and the manager was very nice and she said they've worked hard to get things moving smoothly. For their first day of operation, they did well. I got the dark chocolate cupcake and it was really good. My wife got the chocolate marshmallow and enjoyed it. I don't think I'd be spending $4.95 for one, but for free it was well worth the wait. I really don't understand why people were using the cupcake ATM and pa
  20. I would definitely take this route. MUCH better than Sherberth/Black Lake Road/192. I use it all the time to skip 192.
