Anchors Away! The TCD Gang Has Another Dream (cruise)
djsamuel replied to Tri-Circle-D's topic in Trip Reports
Not necessarily. The access control office sets the points of access for each ID. The IDs do not provide access everywhere. For example, my wife could use her ID to get into back doors in Team Disney, at DRC, Maingate, etc. However, when she worked overtime at other locations she would not have access. If she tried her ID at the Fort, it would not open any gate, nor would it open any gate anywhere other than where she was granted access due to her position. -
Anchors Away! The TCD Gang Has Another Dream (cruise)
djsamuel replied to Tri-Circle-D's topic in Trip Reports
They're not supposed to have access. You can get through to the parking lot with your ID, much like anybody can with a driver's license. However, if it is crowded, you will get turned away as we have at times when showing the cast ID. A few months ago, my daughter and her husband met us for lunch at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The two of them drove from work in separate cars, and we all went to Disney Springs afterwards. When she drove her husband back to get his car, she showed her cast ID and the guard asked if she was staying there. When my daughter said no, that they had lunch there, the g -
Interesting. I thought I remembered my wife getting emails about canoe races in the lake in years past. Maybe I'm mistaken or perhaps this is a different format from previous years. Thanks for posting that.

Nail in the tire...
djsamuel replied to twiceblessed....nacole's topic in RV Repairs on the Road, at FW and Elsewhere
Only if it is leaking. Otherwise, to put a plug in would mean that you are creating a hole through the tire belts that didn't exist before. If it isn't leaking, you haven't gone through the belts and the puncture is superficial. Even if the nail was long, it may have "grazed" the tire and therefore did not do much damage. -
They've had the cast canoe competitions for years, sometimes around the Rivers of America. We got back yesterday from the Fort and all of the water activities such as the water sprites and para sailing were in full force. Kind of adds a new thrill to be para sailing over a lake with alligators. I think the fence is more of a liability control addition. As someone else here posted, in Florida a fence is the same as a no trespassing sign. Plus, if a person ignores signs AND goes around a fence, there's really nobody to blame but them. I was disappointed to see the trail fro

We were going to go to the cabin pool today, but I think we'll skip that. :) -
Meadows Pool Closed
djsamuel replied to djsamuel's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I was wondering about that. The area near the bridge towards the 1500 loop is really muddy and dug up. But that is a fair distance from the pool so I don't know if there is a connection. -
As of this morning around 10:30, the Meadows pool was closed. The water level is down about 2 feet, and there are a lot of workers there. No indication of how long it will be closed.

Did you ever try Townsend? We stay at Big Meadows Family Campground and like it. It is really convenient to the park, especially the Cades Cove area.

We took our camper from Central Florida a couple of years ago and drove out to the Grand Canyon, staying at Trailer Village. It was our third trip out there, but first with the camper. Trailer Village, although basic, was a great place since you were inside the park, about a half mile from the rim. We spent six days hiking and wished we stayed longer. From there we drove to Moab, UT, which is a great drive through Monument Valley. Incredible scenery. We stayed in Moab and visited Arches National Park for the second time, as well as Canyonlands National Park. Just a terrific trip. A

Don't pass that up, especially Arizona and Utah. It is all beautiful though.

Do you mean the one within the park (with the Sugarhill visitor center)? I can't imagine towing something along that road! Glad you made it with only that damage. People seem to think they can take the inside lane of a turn on that road egardless of what side of the road they belong on. I dislike it even when just driving my truck. There is a road back a bit in Townsend that heads up to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg that is a bit better. It is outside of the park.

We were in Liberty Square on the 3rd and the sound was lousy. Maybe they were having system wide issues.- 7 replies

RUMOR: Guardians of the Galaxy Overlay for Mission:SPACE?
djsamuel replied to BradyBzLyn...Mo's topic in Disney Rumors Board
This has been planned for a while. The delay is due to all of the other work being done at this time; Studios, Animal Kingdom, etc. Once they have the capital available, look for a pretty extensive update. It may be several years out though. -
New fence at Clemintine beach

When my wife worked Frontierland back in 1999, a larger gator was spotted at Harpers Mill, along the water. She called that in and it was quickly removed. -
Changes being made due to the alligator attack
djsamuel replied to AuburnJen's topic in Travel and Transportation
We walked it on Father's Day. We arrived the previous Wednesday and it was closed, as was the beach. They were still looking for the little boy. By Sunday, the path was open and we walked from the Settlement Trading post up to the bat house area and then to the 300 loop. All of the cones were removed that were previously blocking access. We were in the 200 loop. -
One big myth is that Disney provides housing for all of its workers. Before my wife started working back stage, several times guests asked her where Disney had her living and asked how nice the housing was. They seemed surprised to find out there is no "town" of Disney workers.

You're the first person I've heard of to get a text message with site number. I use the online check in every time I go, but have never been lucky enough to get that (as long as it is a site I want). You should have played the lottery!

5 Security Changes Happening at Disney Parks
djsamuel replied to AuburnJen's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
We were camping at the Fort from Wednesday to Monday (yesterday). We went to Epcot, Studios and Magic kingdom. I had to go through the metal detector at every entry. I did notice that just about everybody walking through the no bag line had to go through the detectors. A good percentage of those with bags did as well, just not as many. The attitudes of security as well as the guests were great. At Disney Springs, during our walk from the bus stop to Earl of Sandwich, we passed 11 Orange County deputies in uniform. Who knows how many plain clothes security were there. -
Rumor: Maelstrom closing - CONFIRMED

The Frozen greeting area opened yesterday as my wife and I were walking by. They really did a nice job. I'll try to post some pictures later. We were told there will be no fast passes, at least for now. It looks like they have multiple meeting rooms to speed things along.
