Got a Whole Bunch of Money to Drop on a Wedding?
djsamuel replied to AuburnJen's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
That is crazy! I can't imagine who would pay that; although I'm sure some will. There's got to be a lot of extras in that one. My daughter was married 2 1/2 years ago with the ceremony at the Wedding Pavilion, reception at the Atlantic Dance Hall, and Illuminations Dessert party in front of Italy. That totaled less then $25K and that included a year working with the coordinator (a lot), food tastings with chefs to pick the food menu, cake tastings, etc. They did an incredible job, but not for $180,000. -
Main Street Electrical Parade

Now you've got to admit that act with the bags over their heads in Canada after the Lumberjack show left was top notch! -
Has your magic band fallen off?
djsamuel replied to Beckers's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
I've had them fall off a couple of times after catching the end on something and pulling them open. Never lost one though since it is obvious when it happens. -
It is good to get the RVs out because a small shift in the storm can make a big difference,m especially to an RV. Mine is hooked to my truck and tomorrow I will be moving near the house so the house will break the wind. As far as your daughter goes, I think a lot of the thinking at UCF has to do with the fact that some students (not your daughter) will inevitably be knuckleheads and do something stupid. I work next to UCF and in fact share some buildings with UCF. We are open tomorrow and Friday, although they may trim down the staff as conditions warrant. In addition, they are lett

World Drive Accident/Blockage
djsamuel replied to Travisma's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
We had to drive by the accident in the northbound lanes, right next to the SUV under the sign. The EMTs and police were there and traffic on the southbound lanes was a mess. The SUV didn't fare very well. -
Gas shortages in the south?
djsamuel replied to Beckers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
No problem with gas around Disney. Disney stations are $2.04. Some near Celebration are $2.02. no shortages. -
That storm last night was a big one. When I was leaving work yesterday, rather than driving down 417 to Fort Wilderness, I altered my course to take 408 to 429 and down in order to avoid the storms on 417. They were VERY heavy and a lot of lightning. Beat the rain back to the camp site. My wife and I checked in last Wednesday and we'll be staying until next Tuesday the 27th (site 113). However, I'm driving to work during that time so it isn't a full vacation. We had a nephew come down from NJ to play in the softball world series at ESPN, so we watched him until the team was eliminated on S

I've been looking at the RV 660LMT from Garmin. Do you find the RV specific features worth it? I noticed some of the Garmin Nuvi GPS systems they offer have all of the same features with the exception of the RV routing and RV related POIs. The price is about $100 cheaper (give or take) so I am wondering whether it is worth the difference. Both have things like voice command, blue tooth, traffic, proper lane alerts, etc. Do you find the RV specific features useful?

I'm going to work from the Fort this week (have to get up early), and that rain kept me for a while. I noticed they delayed the Halloween Fireworks quite a while since shortly after the thunder stopped, the fireworks started.

Some had the fences first and then added the readers, while as TCD says, others still don't have them. I hope they add them at the Fort, but I'm not anticipating anything.

Disney Fireworks Misfire
djsamuel replied to FunFinder265....Cody's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
You may see them rethinking this. There's no way they would close World Drive since it is the main road out of Disney. But you are right, the risk would seem, to me anyway, unacceptable. -
Disney Fireworks Misfire
djsamuel replied to FunFinder265....Cody's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
A couple of weeks ago, they were shooting them off on the Studios side of World Drive as we were driving by. Good question though. I didn't know they were relocating them. I thought that spot across from Studios was just for retention ponds. Yes, they do close the roads behind the Magic Kingdom during fireworks; at Center Drive for Wishes, and at the Contemporary for the special fireworks like MNSSHP. -
Disney Fireworks Misfire

Since this occurred on World Drive, that would certainly cause a major traffic headache each night, especially since the Studios Fireworks start 30 minutes after Illuminations. -
No, around the corner, near the concierge windows. It all looks similar to what it always has, but now they have signs (similar to the conservation fund signs) that designate it as a butterfly habitat. I think they changed some of the plants to create a more "butterfly friendly" environment. However, there were no butterflies to be seen.

Last week, we saw an area near the entrance to the Settlement that had a sign designating it as a butterfly area. Basically a flower garden, but no butterflies. As you are looking at the front of the building, it is to the left past the concierge windows.

My contact lens is in there somewhere! Lost it on the slide many years ago.

It wasn't bad. The construction is finished and the generators are off.

There's a lot of electrical work/digging going on at the corner near the 400 loop. The electricity at the 100/200 loop comfort station was shut off yesterday morning/early afternoon, and now they have generators running non-stop to power the comfort stations for 100/200 and 400. Didn't take pictures. If I get the chance I will, but as of this morning, the generators were still running.

Last night we walked the trail from the Settlement Trading Post to the 300 loop. All is fenced, with plenty of alligator/snake warning signs; but not one "No Fishing" sign. However, you will have to fish off of the bridge or over the fence. The "Trail Closed" signs were turned so the "No Electric Cart" sign was facing out and the cones were moved out of the way. It seems as though they close the trail in the evenings now. The only No Fishing signs we saw are at the pond near the Meadows pool/movie area.
