Really enjoyed this report! We are headed out to camp at MacMillan Woods in Gettysburg on Saturday morning and I can't wait. Maybe one day I'll make it to a GG. I like Dave's idea of a centralized spot where we could all meet. Maybe the northern VA area off I-81 somewhere?

Getting into DC for 9:30 am question
disney4dan replied to disney4dan's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Thanks guys - will probably try the Red Line to the Orange Line and see how it goes. Although, staying on the Red Line and walking has some advantages; the kids will have about 20 minutes to half an hour to burn off some steam and not have to be quiet before going on the tour. I also have to share this story from last year, and I'm sure anyone who has ever been a chaperone on a group tour can appreciate. Last year during our trip we were all trying to get on the metro during rush hour to head back to College Park. We had already worked out a system that one adult leader would get on the t -
Getting into DC for 9:30 am question
disney4dan replied to disney4dan's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Thanks! We are going in mid April (17th I think for DC). Last year we camped in Greenbelt and took the metro from College Park MD. But this year we are going to Gettysburg and heading to DC for one day. -
Getting into DC for 9:30 am question
disney4dan replied to disney4dan's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
It does look like a long trip. I was thinking of hitting the White Flint metro station and taking the red line to the Judiciary stop, that is a 35 minute ride, followed by a 25 minute walk to the Capitol building. -
Getting into DC for 9:30 am question
disney4dan replied to disney4dan's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Thanks! Taking in a rental van and a personal vehicle. That is another thing, the van is a 15 passenger van, so we would need a pretty good sized open lot for that beast. -
So our Boy Scout Troop was given an appointment to tour the Capitol Building on a Wednesday at 10:00am, but we need to be at the door for 9:30. We are staying in Gettysburg this trip, and plan to drive to the area of the city and get a parking spot at a metro station, take the train in. Is it a better idea to drive right into the city? Would we be able to get parking? If not, would probably be looking to park somewhere near Bethesda and take the red line in.

I know? The app only lists one option at each restaurant.

From Gluten Free Passporter; for Trails End Product does not contain wheat/gluten, corn, egg, milk, peanuts, tree nuts or soy: Breaded Country-Fried Chicken Tenderloins

Yeah, Trails End was real good to him when we went, but it was a few years ago. I wish I could remember what he had.

Some of us have a need to eat gluten free and others might choose to do so for a variety of reason, but I didn't see a lot of information here yet about gluten free dining options. Our oldest son found out at age 16 that he could no longer eat gluten. This was a tragedy for a kid used to eating things like hamburgers, pizza, chicken nuggets, pancakes, waffles, and most importantly, Mom's home made fresh bread. We were pleased to find out during our past two trips to the world that many of the restaurants offer some great gluten free meal options and will go out of their way to make this a non

I don't always slack, but when I do, it's with a Dos Equis in my hand! ....wish I could find that photo of the Dos Equis dude to place here!

Hmm, tempting - I know this was an old post, and I'm not sure if Whip is still going or not. But some other New England family (ahem - me and the DW) will be celebrating a 25th wedding anniversary in 2014. Maybe this would be the place! Was thinking Disney, but WDW is getting pricey and we have been there multiple times. I like the idea of renting a condo in Hawaii.

So I was just going back on this trip report as I was thinking about our upcoming trip for April 2013 and realized it was never completed. My last post was on the Saturday while Nancy and the kids were in Boston to see her dad at the hospital, and I was home with the stomach flu that had plagued our trip home. I had stayed home in order to not pass along the disease to my FIL, only to realize too late that he would be gone within 12 hours. Seems like a lifetime ago, and obviously a whirlwind of activity and sorrow that kept me from finishing that TR. In any case, I will strive to do better

An assessment of the Disney Dining Plan
disney4dan replied to BradyBzLyn...Mo's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
We found that the free dining plan worked for us mainly because we have three kids and were staying in the Value Resorts at the time. Then they switched to the Value Resorts getting only counter service credits and you had to pay extra to get a table service meal each day. Hated the planning around the ADR times, and felt like a bloated whale at the end of the week after "trying to eat it all". Our best Free Dining Plan package once happened when we were given a manager's special on top of the Free Dining Promotion. I know, not supposed to be able to stack savings, and Free Dining normally -

Very cool - looks like a fun trip! -
Christmas at the Fort is starting to sound nice and relaxing. For us, the holidays are always a big day for food. Big roasts, lots of side dishes, lots of "kitchen time" - wonder how that would translate to the camper? When I was a kid we travelled to FL with the trailer and I remember a beachside day with a turkey (small one) roasting in the trailer oven. Some stove top stuffing, mashed tato's and gravy and it was all good. Obviously made an impression on me I guess! Looking forward to seeing how your gang celebrated the big day!

We love 50's Prime Time Cafe too - great memories over the years. Our kids were as little as yours back then, and we don't get to go as often as we would like now. Thanfully, we get to share through trip reports like this! -

Great TR, finally got caught up. In that kind of crowd, I think it would be wise to plan ahead and consume copious amounts of chili. I would have nobody within 25 feet and the term Fuego would have a whole new meaning!
