  1. Looks like I better get busy and post some photos ! Wonder If I can link to video?
  2. Fourth page bragging rights (the new and improved FPBR). I've got to stop letting my life get in the way of FF Net time. Maybe a cruise is in the future for us soon. I'm enjoying this TR and you haven't even left port yet!
  3. Slow wifi at the campground here means lots of time to relax and enjoy this trip report! Seems like you had a great start to the trip, and your choice of beverages seems perfect for sailing.
  4. I'm in, at least I hope I can get the rest of the TR while away this week!
  5. Thanks - we aren't the fastest hikers, but we are persistent! It was fun There will be more soon, I hope. The boy scout troop is headed up to the Whtie Mountains on Labor Day weekend and we will try to summit Wildcat and get views of the Presidential Range I think we were close to Mo. The place is actually called the Tilt'n Diner and I think the owner has a few places. This one is just outside of Laconia I think. Thanks everyone - I think it won't be long and I won't be able to keep up with Matt on the trails, so I'm enjoying the hikes while we c
  6. Just getting caught up and love the TR. I enjoy both the Fort and non-Fort trip reports because I might never get to these areas to see these places. But they motivate me to really find a way to make it happen. Our kids are in that middle-school, high school phase and long trips are harder to come by. My parents tried to warn me, and I remember it well now. Growing up we had campers and would travel a lot until the high school days. Take advantage of the "less scheduled" years and being able to hit the road for spontaneous trips now! You might be limited to short weekends soon, just a
  7. Some of you will remember that Matt and I went on a hike last August to get used to backpacking in all the gear we would need for an overnight stay in the wilderness. Matt is in Boy Scouts and I have had the pleasure of getting to learn a lot by hanging out with these guys and Matt. Well, last years trip was a learning experience where we discovered that a comfortable pack was important. The pack he was carrying did not fit right and he was uncomfortable shortly after we started. On that trip we did get to the shelter, put on a lot of miles on the trail and overnighted in a really nice pl
  8. I might like to PM you or your husband and ask about how the scout trip went out there - we were just "brainstorming" about considering one for our troop in a couple of years when the kids are a little bigger and can hike the Tetons. Specularious - sorry about the truck problems, but a bad day in Yellowstone is still better than a good day at work. Great trip report,
  9. This happened to us on our way back from the Fort in 2008 when we decided to take I-76 East in Pennsylvania instead of our usual I-81 to I-84. I am confident that I had the right tongue weight because I used a scale to check before we left Orlando and discovered there that it was too light and I agree with Jim that it seems to be just an unfortunate issue of spacing in the expansion cracks. The fact that it went away at speeds either below 45 or greater than 75 seems to prove that point, changes the time between the truck responding to the bounce and then the trailer responding. So of cours
  10. Great job on the 24 hour event. We stayed in to about 3:00 am for one of the evening EMH nights and I thought I was going to fall flat on my face before we got "home". I so really need a fix at the world. With gas prices above $3.50 a gallon, towing the trailer to the Fort is probably not in the realm of possibility for a while (especially with reluctant road trippers in their teenage years).
  11. Wow - page three non bragging rights. Seems like we all watched the girls grow through the last few years in your trip reports. Great job in raising them into fine young adults TCD and Mrs. TCD; hardest job worth taking on! Looking forward to the report.
  12. Back to the report! Tuesday was a really low key kind of day. We just toured the battle fields, starting with the observation tower near the southwest corner at Eisenhower's farm and the area that Longstreet was in control of (I think). It was a little chilly that morning so I don't think I have much for photos, but we eventually made it to Round Top, Little Round Top, the slaughter pen and Devils Den. Here's a photo of four of us adult leaders at the top of the tower joking around with Matt peeking over my shoulder And let me pause for a second to recognize this gentleman who is ne
  13. I was impressed with that, just think of the weight and all the steel used in that thing! I was just thinking about the comparison of the kids in front of the shuttle space craft last year and now in front of this - next year's trip should find us in front of a whaling ship or Galleon maybe? Unfortunately, with such a short summer, we don't get much for options. I never used to even dream of camping in that weather, but I will say that is is not that bad once you know how to prepare. No bugs is a really big positive side to camping in that weather. However, washing dishes can be a challen
  14. We had an awesome time, but I wasn't able to do the trip report live like I wanted, and that sort of bummed me out. I will figure it out one day, because I find myself too busy when I get back to finish them!
  15. Awesome report Dave - I can almost smell the popcorn from here!
  16. So Monday morning came all too quick. We had a peaceful night in the campground with the boys disappointed that they didn't see any ghosts. I think our snoring kept them away. Once again, I woke up earlier than the rest and decided to go have a talk with a curious neighbor of ours. This bovine neighbor would come visit us every morning, but never let us get close enough to shake hands. The kids were joking about how the cow was interested in looking at us like we were in a people zoo. The adults were thinking about fresh steaks! This was the scenic farm that was raising the beef c
  17. That was an awesome thing that you did. When we went to DC last April we saw a similar group at the WWII memorial and I remember being in awe of the veterans who came. Great program.
  18. I had to pull myself away from AC's 1978 trip report to get back to this. That is a great trip back in time and I can't wait to get back into that! Anyhow, last we left off on this trip the troop was all settled in for the night in the cold at Frances Slocum State Park in Wyoming PA. Matt and I had brought along extra sleeping bags just in case the dreaded stomach flu from last year's trip decided to pay a repeat visit. While being sick on vacation certainly SMB, being sick and not having a clean sleeping bag to get into SMB even worse! Those extra sleeping bags came in handy for this co
  19. Well, seems like my attempt to post this report "live" was an epic fail, and my first rough Draft here at home just crashed - not a great way to keep motivated on writing! But, I'm sure I can get this done. Anyhow, the Friday before the trip was supposed to be a relaxing day at home packing in the morning, picking up the rental van with three others at mid day and then heading to a big party that night with Nancy. I had the truck all packed with my gear in the morning when mother nature decided to throw us an ice storm to make our day. There was no way I was going to drive out in that wi
  20. Sitting in McMillen Field in Gettysburg, weather has improved! Had snow flurries this morning at Frances Slocum Stste Park. Nice place.
  21. Trying to post photos via the phone is a challenge! I'll try to figure this out and post more as the trip goes on!
  22. Had a good first day, stopped at Steamtown Historic Park in Scranton to see some great old locomotives; [img"http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh199/DanTaylor_01/Gettysburg%202013/E49F6C47-735A-4870-A728-DE362C03833E-1414-000000C5D41D380E_zps966d491c.jpg/img%5D]http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh199/DanTaylor_01/Gettysburg%202013/E49F6C47-735A-4870-A728-DE362C03833E-1414-000000C5D41D380E_zps966d491c.jpg/img]
  23. Well, it's less than 24 hours from our departure and I haven't finished packing. Been a busy week, but we have most of the gear in the troop trailer, I need to finish packing my stuff and Matt's gear, get propane tanks filled, fill my truck, get the rental van and try to keep dry in this freezing rain! Looking forward to the warm weather predicted for next week!
