Disney to build new park
ftwildernessguy replied to Lou...'s topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
Here is how China is raising it's GDP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h7V3Twb-Qk One thing is certain, they can't keep this up forever. And when it collapses, it's gonna come down hard. -
Sad Anniversary
ftwildernessguy replied to MandMandMandMandM's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Over 600,000 americans died over the 4 years of the war. Disease accounted for approx. 2/3 of those numbers. The civil war actually was where the US Military first used the field evacuation system still used today by the medical department, with some modifications. Infection was a serious problem, but less so in the South. The reason was that bandages were in short supply, so women in the South washed them and reused them. The act of washing reduced the pathogenic bacteria, unknown to them. So if you were wounded and in a Southern hospital, you stood a better chance of survival than up N -
Sad Anniversary

My great great grandfather and his younger brother enlisted in the North. He was 17 years old, and his brother was 15! He fought at Gettysburg, Manassas, Antietam, and several other battles. He was sent home once to die from chicken pox. After he recovered, he re-enlisted using his middle name. That generation was a whole different breed of individual than we have today. Interesting that the folks who maintain military records in St. Louis have lost some of mine, but still have his including how much he was paid and what his rations were. He fought in some of the bloodiest battles of th -

Priced out of the fort !!!!
ftwildernessguy replied to JARRSHEL's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
When we first started going to the Fort, it was the hottest deal on property. Not so much any more. We used to go every year, now it is becoming more of an occassional vacation destination. More like an every few years treat. This year, Pigeon Forge. -
Sounds like you really loved that dog too  She started out as my wife's dog, but after the kids were born, she hooked onto me. She's been gone 13 years and I still miss her.

My beagle was my toughest. Hounds are kind of stubborn, but he came around. Now he'd rather explode than have an accident in the house.

We had a Yorkie for 14 years. She was a great dog. Sorry, but I gotta tell you she was the easiest dog I ever housetrained. She had it down in 2 weeks. She was a real mother hen to the kids - always keeping an eye on them, checked on them every night before she would go to bed. The last night she was alive (terminal cancer), she checked on them - took her 1/2 hour for a task that normally took her 2 minutes. She came into the living room and collapsed on the floor. That dog really loved those kids.

Disney to build new park
ftwildernessguy replied to Lou...'s topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
For years I was told the Russians and the Chinese were our enemies, and the middle eastern countries were our friends. Then over night, it seems, the Russians and the Chinese became our friends and we haven't quite figured out where the middle east stands - depends on the country du jour and what our government wants us to believe. I haven't seen the Chinese up close, but I saw the Russians and believe me, they weren't our friends. -

Disney to build new park
ftwildernessguy replied to Lou...'s topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
That other park was hilarious. There used to be an internet site that had pics of it. -
I'll second that. A bit out of the way, but worth the trip.

Will Disney hit people over the head and when they wake up, they will be forced to sell turkey legs at Shanghai Disney? -
Any Kingdom Keepers fans out there?
ftwildernessguy replied to BradyBzLyn...Mo's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
Newest Kingdom Keeper showed up on my Nook last night for $9.99. The others are $7.19, so I am going to hold off until the price comes down. I am in the middle of Bram Stoker's Dracula right now anyway. -

Technically, yes, but like the Harry Potter books, a lot of adults are reading them. -

MONORAIL PICTURES
ftwildernessguy replied to H in SC's topic in Picture of the Day from Disney and Beyond
The monorails smell like a horsebarn. In all fairness, the horsebarn at FW smells better than the monorails. But they are fun to ride. -
Television in the camper
ftwildernessguy replied to BRDof3...Rob's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I have a weather radio in the camper for NOAA weather forecast. -
By the way, the chicken at Cosmic Rays is one of the best deals on property, and it comes with a show - Sonny Eclipse.

Usually I am happy with whatever we can pick up with the amplified antenna. Once when we were camping in the Poconos we got no reception and the cable didn't work. That was a pain, but not a war stopper. -
Turkey legs anyplace.
