Its interesting the attitudes people aquire based on limited information. I would guess that many people that look down at "campers" probably wouldn't be able to afford to buy a nice diesel-pusher MH (of course neither can I right now.... ) As far as the hotel rooms.... when I was in training for crime scene invests, they took us to a local hotel (not cheap either) and rented a freshly cleaned room for us to go in and use the "alternate light source" (UV and other frequencies). UGH!! The room lit up like the inside of the Rock and Roll roller coaster. Chairs, carpet, walls, and the "clean"

This Looks Like Fun

The Mythbusters did a whole show on this a few months ago. They examined the video and recreated the slide next to a pond and then tried to duplicate the jump. Myth BUSTED! -

Did someone just ask for the EWP? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_YZMAkYKHo Request Granted!! -
Great Pics Norm! Love the unusual angles, neat way to look at the Fort in a new way. Where is that abandoned windmill? Don't remember seeing it.

I agree, very cool, I was told that there were no rails left at all and here is an entire stretch of track that looks like they just walked away from.... Like others, I love walking behind the 700 loop where there are still ties and a recognizable rail bed and have often wished I had the time to follow it around the entire Fort. On this part it almost looks like you could almost cut back the brush and run a train back there again. well, maybe not :) :) :) :) :)

I had the same question. It looks from the map that there should be another one near the back of the 1500 loop too?

How about that can-top they tried for a little while that had 2 circles you had to press down on. One to drink from and the other smaller one to let air in.... IIRC the metal circles would sometimes break off and drop into the soda which wasn't good if you drank them! It didn't last very long, maybe a year or two before they all went to the kind we have now. :) :) :) :) :)

I agree, he needs to come and post here. I enjoyed that thread very much, it was fun to see what I hadn't noticed before esp when in some cases I had walked right by it many times. Our last trip, we went to the AKL for the first time and we went to the "Trophy room" because we saw it on the "Adventures of the Purple Van".... Never would have known it existed otherwise :) Why did the DISfunctional Boards close it down after it had been going for so long? :) :) :) :) :)

Our last trip was 2 weeks in January. We had our 9 month old w/us and decided to not trade this years AP vouchers in till the next trip. We spent time exploring the Fort (inspired by TCD reports :) ) We also practiced taking the little one and his stroller on and off the buses, boats and Monorails. We went to the MK by boat walked back to the Contemporary, then to the Poly by mono, etc etc. Spent a lot of time at Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk, took the boat to Epcot and back again, went to eat at places and resorts we hadn't even known were there, and also went to the AKL and walked around

There's plenty of turkeys at the Fort, esp on holiday weekends....

I'm pretty sure I read something about the unmanned tolls that if you don't have the Pass or the money, the camera gets your plate and they send you a bill for the toll and a hefty "service charge"..... Obviously an attempt to encourage people to get the passes, which in turn makes it easier to levy more tolls (taxes) without the overhead (toll takers). Toll Roads in general are an example of a seemingly good idea run amok. If its a private road, owned and paid for completely by a private company, then I can see paying for the convenience of using their road. But in too many cases these toll r

I agree with every word of this post (well, except the part about forgetting... but esp the part about the waterside Margaritas ;D ) :) :) :) :) :)

Second all of that. And also looking forward to the TCD RMoG Awards. Always brings a smile to my day. :) :) :) :) :) :)

You would not have liked the 2000 loop on MLK weekend this January. The "Shamrock Families" had approx 1/2 the loop and the first thing they unpacked were loudspeakers set up on tri-pods.... LOL Course, the group area next door was even worse... :) :) :) :) :)

TCD, I, like Doodle was mostly a lurker over at the DISfunctional board... at least until you and a couple others got "Flushed" in the first wave...... I think the rest of us got caught in the second wave (second "swirl" ? ) I'm glad you are back, its been way too long w/o a TCD trip report. One more question though.... Will your cousin Yuri be back too??

TCD!! Welcome Back! :insanity: :insanity: :insanity: :insanity: :insanity: Another great trip to Fort Wilderness! I only have one question....... Is it worth it?

We use Purina Fit and Trim. When one of our Labs became diabetic, The vet told us the Fit and Trim was a good food for her. Low Calorie, Low Fat, inexpensive compared to the "high end" dog foods, and we could feed the same thing to all the dogs, just adding some Walmart canned food for the other dogs who need a little more fat in their meals. It has worked great for 6 or 7 years so far and is widely available when we are on the road :) Another tip: If you buy canned food be wary of the labels. If it say's "gravy" anywhere it means that you are paying for water instead of food. You get more

A Camping Pet Question
Avatab.... Steve replied to ~Kristina~'s topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
A few years ago I had my Lab puppy Kona and I took him over to my friends newly opened Bicycle Shop. We get there and I lead him around outside for a couple of minutes, he poops, I figure he's all set, I bring him inside. Where he gets halfway down the row of shiny new bicycles all lined up on the new carpeting...... Apparently he decided to hold the pee until he could Christen the new shop. :rofl2: Luckily my friends have a good sense of humor...... and pets of their own :rofl2: :) :) :) :) :) -
A Camping Pet Question

Agreed. And remember right now you aren't training the puppy you are training yourself to learn her habits. It is an overnight success. Time, patience and consistency is key. :rofl2: And I agree with that. :) This meeting of the Mutual Admiration Society will now come to order...... :wiz: 8) 8) -
A Camping Pet Question
Avatab.... Steve replied to ~Kristina~'s topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Don't forget that Puppies aren't naturally housebroken, it will take awhile and unless you catch them in the act, don't yell, it will just confuse and frighten them. Read up on crate training, one instinct the puppy does have is to not mess where he beds down. A crate that gives them enough room to sleep, but not so much that it gives them room to pee and poop will help housebreak them much faster. :rofl2: :wiz: :) :) :) -
Now THAT would have made sense, instead of reusing the same footprint and the only changes being decreasing the depth and making it zero entry). I've seen pics of the pool in the summer. It looks like the family pool on the Disney Wonder on an "at sea" day, when the only actual "swimming" going on is the bacteria between the wall-to-wall bodies. (yuk) Given that in general, I'd bet campers spend more time actually AT their resorts than other guests, it would have made a heck of a lot more sense to turn the pool area into something bigger and better. Maybe not to the extreme like Stormalon
