  1. The last few years we have camped on holiday summer weekends at a National Forest Campground in New Hampshire. It is very small and basic, outhouses and no utilities. But it is beautiful and quiet with mountain views all around during the day and a million stars overhead at night (no electric lights anywhere nearby). A couple of years ago we were there for 4th of July and noticed the site next to us was empty for Friday and Saturday nights. There are only 12 sites, so usually every site is booked well ahead of time. The site did have a reserved sign on it and it was booked for the three nigh
  2. It is a great engine. Had one in our Class C Winnebago and now in our Class A Itasca, in fact it was one of the reasons I bought the Itasca instead of others I was looking at. the V10 will go forever as long as you keep up with oil changes. It does like to drink gas, but if you are careful to stay in it's sweet spot it's not too bad.
  3. I already mentioned this, but we saw these video display boards for the first time in the very last room of the queue where the FP guests meet up with the standby guests. In my opinion video monitors mounted on the wall there is totally at odds with the theming. Plus, the cartoonish Yeti is inconsistent with the serious/scientific aspects of the room that standby guests have just left. Dumb: So why are these here? Look at this photo: See how the Yeti is welcoming Wilby Daniels? Who the heck is Wilby Daniels? I think some knucklehead imagineer came up with a plan to have some t
  4. Haven't stayed there, but have stayed at this one North of there: http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/382-new-green-acres-rv-park-walterboro-sc-i95/ and several times at this one South of there: http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/509-jacksonville-north-st-marys-koa-kingsland-ga-i95/ Both of these are right off of I-95 and have after-hours check-in :D
  5. Yeah , I love that song, I see evidence everyday that it's true..... :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=PKpQRjj_WbU Sorry, didn't mean to be confusing about the tent, what I meant was that I used to fold up the sleeping bags during the day so we would have some more room to walk in the tent to change or get out of the rain, and so no one would leave muddy footprints on my bed... LOL My friend who had the car-tent didn't have to do that because his were already off the tent floor and out of the way unless he needed to use the back seat of the car for
  6. I am always amazed at some of what I see when at FW, (I posted last year about out-of-control groups and the trashed group areas they left behind....) TCD's pics remind me that the real problem isn't with the groups or people who take advantage, there will always be those who are self-centered and oblivious. The real problem is with FW allowing it to happen. Just as with society in general, if the rules are not perceived to be fairly enforced, then respect for the rules quickly goes out the window.... The icing on the cake is when someone is "offended" when their bad behaviour is pointed
  7. A friend had one of these and if I was still car camping I would think about getting one. The idea is that you make your bed in the back part of the SUV, which puts it up off the ground (kind of like a pop-up bed) and it frees up floor space in the tent when you are inside of it. When you want to drive somewhere you loosen up the cord, move the car, and then tighten the cord to keep the tent waterproof. Reverse the process when you come back. The only downside is that if you need the back seat in the SUV, you have to fold up the bed and then remake it later, but many people in tents do tha
  8. Been there many times, usually for some down time after staying at FW.... ;-) There are 3 "loops", one for Tents and Pop-ups only, one for any camper w/ pets, and one for any camper w/o pets. All 3 have some waterfront sites and some non-waterfront. Many have their own little beach where you can put in kayaks/canoes right from your site. It really is a gorgeous place if you get the right spot (the sunsets are amazing) and you're careful when getting into and out of the sites. It is also just a minute away within the same park from a beach that was voted best in the country a few years
  9. Not to defend DME (never been on one) but at least two other ways this could have happened: 1. The car could have been travelling at speed not too far in front of the DME and suddenly slowed/stopped, not giving the driver enough time to react. We call that "Failure to use care in slowing or stopping". or 2. There could have been one or more vehicles in front of the DME blocking the drivers view. If one wasn't paying attention and swerved at the last minute and/or just looked to the DME driver like they were changing lanes, then the DME driver could suddenly be coming up on a stopped car
  10. I did it!! I finally got in on the FIRST PAGE of a TCD TR!! ,,,,,,,, oh.... never mind.......... ;-) BTW, is it just me or does the calliope look kind of drab now? It's not a bad look, I just remember it being more colorful when it was behind glass at FW. and the "Black Hole" is a Classic! IIRC it was Disney's first real attempt at Sci-Fi. Didn't do too well at the box office, critics thought it was just a Star-Wars knock-off, but it had great special effects for the time, especially the V.I.N.C.E.N.T. robot, and again IIRC voiced by Roddy McDowall. I had always hoped they wo
  11. Thanks Carol. One of these days I should do a real TR..... "I always wanted to procrastinate, but I kept putting it off"
  12. This one's for you Lou!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkgTW73I-lQ&feature=player_detailpage
  13. Great Minds Lou! I have that on a baseball hat I got from my FIL in Maine :) PETA really are PITA's though aren't they? Especially since they are hypocrites of the worst sort. Remember the story last year of them putting down animals that had been left in their care because it was costing them too much!?! Unbelievable. Welcome to FF.net Ashley!! :insanity: You will like it here. No chance of being "Fort Flushed" and much friendlier (fiendlier?) than the DISfunctional boards..... :mh1:
  14. Well, OK. Gee and I was getting all excited about Plan C too..... But hey, a few more years of the eating and drinking thing means there will be that much more to go around right!? Maybe even enough to cover all the great spots at the FORT! OK, I'm excited again!
  15. I Like It! A little more from Dumbo, then Goofy's Barnstormer, the 3 Mountains, and don't forget to save some for the Haunted Mansion! ah...Doodle, we're going to need you to start eating and drinking more..... :pc:  :pc:
  16. HA! Almost choked on my lunch when I read that! :rofl2: How about a Plan B: a little here and there from the WEDWAY People Mover, and then the rest from the Train as it goes round the park? :mort1: :mort1: :mort1: :mort1: :mort1:
  17. It sure can. For the last couple of years every time we got heavy rain there was a puddle on the bathroom counter. It was coming thru the roof down thru the medicine cabinet and to the counter. But I couldn't find where it was coming in in the first place.... A few months ago, I got a good deal on a new fantastic fan/roof vent, replaced the one I had, and no more leak... The fan wasn't even near where the water was coming in!? Go figure.
  18. I agree. I would be VERY surprised if they didn't eliminate the deep end since I had 2 different CM's tell me that was the deciding factor in getting the go-ahead for the Meadows Pool "Upgrade"..... Of course I wasn't able to get that confirmed by a Bus Driver, so........
  19. Thanks for the great reporting TripleB! :D Ever since a tree fell on my camper while we were over at the MK a few years ago, we always leave a note on the door with a cell phone number on it, and we make sure to have that phone on us. Hopefully, a CM or fellow camper would call us in case of any problems....
  20. Its not a bad gun for close-quarters self defense, esp when paired with the right round in the chamber, but for stopping power or distance shooting its not the gun you want. I esp like when Agent 007 shoots 2 or 3 bad guys with one shot each at 10 or 20 yards and they each fall down and die like they've been hit with a 12 gauge slug.... ;D
  21. I was mad enough at their behaviour that when we got home a week or so later I tried looking up the "Shamrock Families" with plans to email them AND Disney. All I could find were a couple of references to the Catholic Church in Florida, but no email or phone numbers... Right about that same time I got caught up in another controversy/kerfluffle/brewhaha which resulted in me and some other F®iends getting FLUSHED from some loser of a website, so I kind of got distracted from my search for the "Shamrock Families"......
  22. The Walther that James Bond carried was I believe a .380 caliber. Years back when I was in plainclothes, we were issued Sig-Sauer .380's for off-duty carry and the Range Instructor told us that he didn't want to hear of any of us using the damn things unless it was over our shoulder as we were running away.... :rofl2: He was of the opinion that the gun would do more damage to the bad guy if we were to throw it at him! ;D So ever since, when I see 007 shoot down several badguys at a distance with his pea-shooter, I have to LOL!
  23. Wonder if this was the same group who was there on MLK weekend in Feb of this year. They called themselves the "Shamrock Families" according to the banner they had up over their LOUDSPEAKERS.... and the bright green t-shirts the kids wore while screaming around the fort in golf carts. We could hear them on the 900 loop and the poor campers in the 2000 loop that weren't with them were left to fend for themselves by Disney. Granted, FW CM's had their hands full that weekend all over the Fort (the Group areas were also crazy), but if the Shamrock Families (a Catholic Church sponsored group I beli
