Enchanted tiki room
Avatab.... Steve replied to Starbuc71's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
I couldn't agree more. The Pre-show area is especially great with the plants, real tiki flames, the carvings and the lighting at night you really feel as though you are in the jungle. It's a great spot to sit for a few minutes. When the different Tiki's start talking it is just icing on the cake. I always wondered why WDW didn't do the same with theirs..... -
Same here, my 5yr old loves it and I have no idea why.....

If you still haven't found the right floorplan yet, don't forget about Starcraft, they are owned and made by Jayco and have the same level of quality / reputation. Also, Winnebago started making trailers again a couple of years ago and seem to be well made too. I agree with the ability to have a seperate bunkroom. We have been looking for a gas motorhome with one, but no luck so far.

Same here :D I think the Tiki Room is one of those things that if you had seen it as a child, then your perception of it is always, at least partiallly, colored by your memories from then. Just like the COP, I try to see the Tiki Room once in awhile and I am always transported back to when I first saw it as a 5 or 6 year old and it was amazing and wonderful! It is always a pleasant memory for me and I leave with an innocent smile :D -

Does this mean a new trip report is in the works? :D (and that was a good joke, I'll have to remember that one...) -
Anyone ever stay at a Wal-Mart?
Avatab.... Steve replied to PGHFiend's topic in Camping To and From the Fort
It's funny how some refer to Walmart ONP as "free" when it is anything but free after we get through restocking the RV. Walmart knows exactly what they are doing by allowing RVs to stay the night.... ;-) -
Anyone ever stay at a Wal-Mart?
Avatab.... Steve replied to PGHFiend's topic in Camping To and From the Fort
We have stayed at several over the last few years. (As well as some Cracker Barrels, Flying J's and Sams Clubs..) The first time or two it was hard for me to sleep due to worry, but now it has become somewhat routine, plus we usually are stopping late when we are already tired. We look for WM's on the list at a website that keeps an up to date check on which ones are OK for ONP (overnite parking). We also look for other RV's in the lot. A couple of times we have continued on when it didn't seem right, or if there were new signs up prohibiting RV's. The only issues we have had so far we -
Epcot Knock Off?
Avatab.... Steve replied to BradyBzLyn...Mo's topic in WDW and Disney Park Discussions
Maybe a couple of these "caravan parks" would work at WDW and alleviate some of the crowding at FW..... after all they have different levels of hotels, yes? These could be the "Value Campground" and a moderate level would have a few more amenities, a little more space, etc. -
Motorhome owners

The V10 is a great engine, reliable, lots of power and you can get it serviced at any Ford place across the country. We had a class C and now a class A both with the V10 and would stick with it if buying another gas powered RV. The Workhorse/Allison was a good combo from what I have heard (except for brake issues in some of them), but they are not made anymore and it might become increasingly harder to find competent servicing for it..... -
All great advice so far, especially the part about the reduced speed not making a huge difference in time vs how much safer it would be. As TCD mentioned, the sure cure for sway is to load properly towards the front and have a good brake controller to apply the trailer brakes slightly when it happens (assuming your pop-up has electric brakes...) Don't be put off by the Fall weather, if you have an onboard furnace and/or a ceramic heater, you would be surprised how warm a pop-up can be. Hunters use them up north in the winter all the time. Just watch for windy weather, the wind going under

Just a quick rant
Avatab.... Steve replied to djsamuel's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I posted a picture here awhile back of some tents pitched right on the dog walking path behind the 800 loop, not even close to being on their site. They even had rope lights lining the "path" through the trees from the site to the tents! They were there all weekend and even had their beanbag game set up so that people on the path had to detour around it..... As a career cop I get the concept of selective enforcement, but FW has taken that to a whole new level. Not to start a rant about our present-day society but when the people start to believe that the rules don't apply to everyone equal -
Cell Towers Installed at the Fort
Avatab.... Steve replied to Tri-Circle-D's topic in Disney and Fort Construction
It looks like these are right next to the main FW road? If so, they might not be noticeable at all from the you-know-where.... If they are going to put any antennas near that other place you can bet your bytes they won't be as obtrusive as these! -

From the article: “Everything had to be concealed,” Quant said. “As a parkgoer, you will never see any of the equipment.” and: "AT&T engineers and Disney Imagineers worked together to insure that resort guests wouldn’t see such glaring visual aberrations to the themed attractions at the park." -
Pilot flying J truck stops
Avatab.... Steve replied to BeckersDadJohn's topic in Camping To and From the Fort
Ha! exactly. The extra noise in the AM does wake me up earlier than I would otherwise, but that's ok since it gets us on our way quicker, which is one of the reasons for staying there instead of a campground.... I have been wondering if Pilot (who now owns Flying J) would start closing or altering the FJ lots, since the Pilot's we have stopped at were not RV friendly at all, but so far they seem to have let them continue on as usual. -
Pilot flying J truck stops
Avatab.... Steve replied to BeckersDadJohn's topic in Camping To and From the Fort
We have stayed overnight at several of the Flying J's along I-95. As others have said, they usually have designated RV/camper parking although on busy travel days those spots get taken by late afternoon! I have seen campers along the grass put their slides out w/o any issues, but I wouldn't do it if it was over pavement for fear someone might leave or pull in after dark and hit it, there is not much room to spare...... Also bring your ear plugs, the FJ's are busy at all hours and it's not the quietest place. Having said that, after driving all day I have had few problems falling asleep! -

Cable in the Campground

All I want to know is how do I get the Stacy channel? That and the Appliance Direct!! channel are the only reasons we hook up the cable at the Fort....
