  1. Not a popular position here on FortFiends I'll bet, but I am forced to agree with you. The carts have gotten out of control and are one of the reasons FW is no longer the peaceful low-key escape we all remember. As handy as a cart has been for us, on those trips we don't get one we have been able to get everywhere we needed to be by foot, bicycle, or car. Saved some money on those trips and didn't put on as many lbs as usual Maybe a compromise would be to rent more of those pedal-powered surrey bikes in their place.
  2. Same here, we have used our ZIGO bike (kind of a pedal-powered jog stroller) at the Fort and it was not as easy as I would have guessed. I would really have to pay attention to the junctions to see if I was going to have to jump the bike over curbs and out into traffic. I also agree that when I am on my MtnBike at the Fort, I stay mostly on the road or the cart paths. It has been ingrained in me to NOT ride bicycles on sidewalks.
  3. Yup, once again Mo you have hit it on the head. The HRTA graduate wiz-kids that pass through the Fort on their way to bigger and better things will always treat it as the RHSC* of Disney Resorts. So much of what generates complaints at FW is unique to RV's and camping and does not really register with those managers who came from hotels and will be going back to hotels just as soon as they can..... * Red Headed Step Child
  4. I still don't get Disneys logic with this. If they are worried about sparks and floating embers then why not allow propane fire pits? We got one last year for those CGs that don't allow wood fires. It works great, was cheap from Home Depot and is better than a wood fire in many ways.
  5. This is when they should have the Wonders of Life pavilion ready to go, or at least something in that space other than seminars..... I vote for a new Horizons ride :D
  6. I have seen a few GC's on the Dirt road next to the water going to and from the Fort and WL. My guess is that they use the dirt path as it is less likely to be seen by any security or bus drivers etc.
  7. You know what they say about New England: If you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes.....
  8. New Green Acres is a good stop, have stayed there many times. Long pull throughs, easy on-off highway and they have a late check-in kiosk. There is a KOA in Florence (correction, not KOA anymore, now it is the Florence RV Park) but that isn't that much further than SOB and given the choice we ALWAYS stop at SOB.... After all where else can you see a reptile zoo, take an elevator up into a sombrero, get great bisquits and gravy, and also stock up on rubber snakes! :D Oh, and their CG is quiet, cheap and clean, bathrooms are decent but older, and it is gated at night to keep the rubber
  9. Finishing the walkway would be nice, even better would be if they fixed the wave machine so we could go surfing again COWABUNGA!
  10. The reason I mentioned "related people" is because that would be one way to get the site overcrowding back under control. I agree it would be a tough rule to enforce, but it would give Security or the Sheriffs another tool to kick out any site they get called to for problems. Just like no-alcohol rules. IIRC the Fort was Walt's idea to provide a more affordable way for a family to come to Disney World. What would he say if he was to take a tour of the present-day Fort with all of the crazy groups/tents/cars/trucks/golfcarts/etc crammed onto site after site. I know that there are large fam
  11. Stayed there many times and as others have said it's not the greatest place in the world but it is quiet, clean, cheap and right off the highway. It is behind the main buildings and removed form all the neon and noise, but still close enough to enjoy all the great tackiness that is SOB If the CG office is closed we have just gone into the "El Drug Store" out front to get a site.
  12. Correct, they do vary by State. I also can't imagine anyone getting written up for it if they genuinely believed they were a "hazard"...... And IMHO, any vehicle going slower than the prevailing speed is a hazard. In fact there is evidence that slower drivers actually are more dangerous and cause more accidents than speeders....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_curve
  13. Exactly Sounds like there is more than one issue causing sites to be in short supply. What is the common denominator? Weak rules and spotty enforcement. Or, as TCD said above: "IDIOTS"!!
  14. And it may be that the bigger issue isn't the phantom sites with no one on them, but the people who book one or two sites and then cram as many people on them as possible. As noted above, that would very cheap on a per-person basis. We have all routinely seen sites with WAY too many cars and people on them. IMHO if sites were restricted to immediate family and a reduced maximum number of people, many of those sites would open up as the abusers went elsewhere.
  15. And here I thought that Anna and Elsa's parents were shipwrecked while on the way to attend Rapunzel's royal wedding in "Tangled".........
  16. My guess is that many of the large groups would go elsewhere on or off property if the 10 per rule was changed. That's what would free up sites. They come to the Fort because it's the cheapest place for them, probably by far once you divide by 10 people. Is there anywhere else that allows 10 unrelated people in a single room for the same price? As far as the new reservation system, not sure that's going to take care of the phantom people, we just shortened our reservation online w/o any issue. According to what I had read we shouldn't have been able to do that... oh, and we have called
  17. I know I will catch flack for this but I believe if they would crack down on the "Phantom sites" AND restrict sites to 2 adults and their immediate children/grandchildren instead of the widely-abused 10 per rule, you would see more sites open up and maybe more discounts again.....
  18. Up Arrow for Epcots new theme: "happy clappy" Remember when it used to be: "If We Can Dream It We Can Do It!" :usa:
  19. This was fun: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/cabins-at-fort-wilderness-resort/wilderness-back-trail-adventure/ Tour of Fort Wilderness and the WL by Segway :D but, over 16 only
  20. Towing w/ the F150 means you be able to see over most any pop-up you buy and won't have to worry as much about weight, but make sure you set the truck up for the electric brake controller you will need. As far as the toilet, as I mentioned above I wanted a hot shower and it came with a cassette toilet, we never used the shower much but that cassette toilet sure was nice on those chilly nights! And the shower curtain provided some privacy for the toilet. I also put some carpeting down on the floor and I had nice warm feet while staying inside for those late-night calls.... Keep an eye o
  21. I had 2 1990's Starcraft Pop-ups and both were great well-made campers. The first was a basic no-frills model with an ice box and hand pump for water. I liked it so much I bought a newer, nicer one with a real fridge, furnace, on board batteries and a toilet/shower combo. The funny part is that I bought it for the hot water shower and didn't really want the included cassette toilet, but in actual use I used the toilet a lot and hardly ever used the shower.... go figure! LOL Nowadays Starcraft is owned by Jayco and they both build a quality product. I originally liked the Starcraft better
  22. LL Bean used to have a factory outlet store in N.Conway NH that was a true outlet. It was very basic, product was very often still in big cardboard boxes. Most of it was factory seconds, over runs and customer returns, a lot of stuff had names or initials embroidered on them. Everything was dirt cheap, 75 or 80 percent of if not even more. We used to love stopping there because you never knew what they would have. Fast forward a few years and they opened a new "outlet" with fancy theming and shiny racks and displays. Not the same......
  23. Someone must be getting paid by the cone...... or maybe Mngmnt said "lets spread some pixie dust on a hot day, Ice cream cones for everyone!" And by the time the order came down thru middle mngmt it read: "lets spread some cow manure on a hot day, Safety Cones for everyone!"
