Sounds like they do a nice setup with chairs, a mat, and awning lights. The rentals I have seen in the past at the Fort didn't have awnings or mats, or at least didn't seem to have them out. I always assumed that was because the rental company didn't want the extra hassle of teaching a customer to roll it up in a storm. They even program the TV, very nice!

At the fort, water heater help!
Avatab.... Steve replied to Theed31u's topic in RV Repairs on the Road, at FW and Elsewhere
If its the nylon type plug, one of the sockets on a standard 4-way lug wrench should fit, ask your neighbors if they have a tire lug wrench to try. Be very careful when taking it out as the nylon/plastic gets brittle over time and will break off, causing a bigger problem (yes, I did that..LOL ) If the plug comes out OK, try some plumbers tape on it and see if that works better. Any camping supply store or RV dealer should have replacement plugs if needed. Good Luck. -
TCD and The Troll have both been gone since that same time. There was a kerfuffle on a thread that they were posting in and some unfortunate things were said that I'm guessing caused some hard feelings. They are both missed and I am hoping that they will both be back soon.

STORM DAMAGE?
Avatab.... Steve replied to Travisma's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Just saw on our local news that a couple was killed yesterday during the storm when a large tree fell on the car they were driving. Very sad. http://www.wcvb.com/news/two-people-suffer-lifethreatening-injuries-when-tree-falls-on-car-in-abington/38842992 -
not Disney, but a Fiend recommended spot- Ft Desoto
Avatab.... Steve replied to swimmarz's topic in Trip Reports
Been there many times, it's a great place, very peaceful and a great spot for kayaks or canoes. Half or more of the sites are right on the water. As Travisma just said, its hard to get a water site during the busy season as the county residents get to book earlier than non-residents, but even the off- water sites are nice and the whole park is beautiful. The beach has been rated one the tops in the USA several times and they even have a beach just for dogs. Whenever possible we do a "Fort to Fort Trip" and use Fort Desoto to unwind from Disney. Nothing like a hammock on the water b -
STORM DAMAGE?
Avatab.... Steve replied to Travisma's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I was one of the posters about trees at the Fort. 10 years ago or so we were camped in the 1900 loop and while we were at the MK a section of tree broke off and crushed the front bunk of our Class C. Most of the bunk area was destroyed and crushed down onto the windshield and hood of the camper. If anyone had been sleeping up there it would have been bad if not fatal. Coming back to that was bad, but not as bad as we were then treated by Disney and the Fort Management afterwards.... but that's another story and is why I have a Love/Hate relationship with the Fort (and Disney in general) -
Good question Jason. I guess we'll find out when the work starts and we either see pictures of Cabins being loaded onto flatbeds, or worker bees ripping out cabin interiors for the upgrades..... If they start doing any work on the old Comfort Station, that will also be a big sign that the rumors were true.

Ha! This is where TCD would be saying "En Fuego!"

Good question. Most local media stays on top of anything the local police and fire get dispatched to. They monitor the radios pretty closely, I know we couldn't put out anything interesting on a radio transmission w/o having Boston news media calling us to find out what was going on. That doesn't answer why no one else got the story though. Either it didn't happen the way it's being reported, or maybe Disney called the local agencies by phone and asked that they respond with a minimum of radio traffic. If the body was not in the immediate public view I can see how this may have been han -

It's still unclear exactly where this happened, if he jumped from the "top of the A frame" as the story says, that could mean inside or outside. If it was inside, then I agree that it would have been all over social-media. If it happened outside, I can see where he might have gone off the roof, landed on the track just outside and not been seen by very many people. IIRC, I don't think there are many places in the Contemporary that look down on the outside where the monorail enters the building. Again, this is very sad and always is when someone makes that awful decision to take -
I hate to sound like a broken record, but until Disney decides to build another park in the US, we will see more of this type of thing at WDW. There is just too much demand and not enough product. Disney also seems reluctant to expand very much in FLA since they got hurt by the sudden fall in tourism after 9-11. If I were Disney, I would be looking at 2 new parks to take the load off of FLA. One in Texas and one in Brazil. Until then, they will be looking for new ways to manage the current mismatch between crowds and park capacity. Unfortunately, that means higher prices and pursui

Exactly. Even a small hobby drone can do some serious harm if it smacks someone in the head. -

We may not hear any more about this. Sadly, suicides are more common than many know, and are usually handled quietly as a routine matter by the police. Many times, all you hear or read is that someone died "suddenly" or "unexpectedly". If they choose to do it in a very public manner then, as noted by others above, it will make the local news, but even then it is a quick note as there is still a high level of discomfort when talking about the subject. When reading the article, it seems to say that the person jumped from the top of the Contemporary and may have landed on the tracks be -
The antenna works pretty well and pulls in some decent HD channels, but no "Stacey Channel"..... Here's the latest "Must Do's with Stacey" in case you are having withdrawals from Disney Cable.....

We got about the same here, the good news is that it's already mostly melted and it will be up to 60 degrees again this week. But I agree I'd rather have chilly at the Fort

Cabins to Campsites on the 2100 Loop?
Avatab.... Steve replied to Avatab.... Steve's topic in Disney Rumors Board
That's the same thing discussed on the page where I first saw this story as the reason Disney was planning to do this, since it would add 44 new campsites, but not adversely affect their Cabin business. -
Some of you may not have heard of the guys who wanted to document the Horizons Ride before it was torn down. They started by sneaking in a big bulky video camera to record as they rode in the ride-vehicle, then they slowly figured out that if they were careful not to be seen by any other riders, they could jump out and hide inside the scenes while filming and taking still pictures, then jumping back in to another empty ride-car when they were ready to leave, and just exit the ride like nothing ever happened! Their blog detailing their adventures is here: http://mesaverdetimes.blogspot.c

My favorite quote from the article: "....Sometimes when people go on vacation they forget to pack their manners. Unfortunately this can make for a difficult vacation for the people around them. I think Walt Disney World should institute a time out policy for these rude behaviors—Stitch’s Great Escape would be the perfect spot. Make them spend some time in there..."

Cabins to Campsites on the 2100 Loop?
Avatab.... Steve replied to Avatab.... Steve's topic in Disney Rumors Board
I did not know that. I knew there used to be mobile homes at the Fort (Fleetwoods right?) I thought the cabins were, well, cabins. I did know the 2100 loop was originally campsites at some point. And IIRC, the concrete pads are the same shape and size as a camping loop, so not a lot of work to do to restore them to camping. Just haul off the cabin/mobile home, re-wire the hook-ups, clean-up the old Comfort Station and they are in business, right? -
Cabins to Campsites on the 2100 Loop?
Avatab.... Steve replied to Avatab.... Steve's topic in Disney Rumors Board
Don't blame you, we had a similar situation happen several years ago when a tree fell on our camper in the 1900 loop. All they were interested in was getting us to sign a waiver of liability and non-disclosure. Actually helping us in a tough situation was not an option..... LOL Have you offered to help drive the first bulldozer when they start the demolition? For that matter, I wonder if they wouldn't just haul them up on a flatbed to take away? -
