Slight thread hi-jack. We're dreaming in the future of a class C purchase, preferably the diesel Sprinter class Cs. Just curious how people's experiences were buying used price wise. I know we are all convinced that RVs are terrible for depreciation long term, but I'm wondering about for the first 2-3 years given how deeply discounted a new RV purchase can be. We paid about 70% of retail when we purchased our current TT brand-new, and at the time that was in line with asking prices for used units.

You can just buy a bag of it... https://www.amazon.com/Pineapple-Dole-Serve-Cream-Large/dp/B01666JBFG/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1479494925&sr=1-1&keywords=dole+pineapple+soft+serve This stuff keeps for a good while after opening the bag and you don't have to use it all at once. We've frozen it in our ice cream maker at home. The consistency is a little "grainier" due to it not being in a real soft-serve maker, but it's perfect otherwise.

"Self-extenders" ruining the magic
geoffdaddy replied to weehaulers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
It maddens me to no end after a 10 hour drive to arrive at the fort an hour after check in time only to be told that the preassigned site is not ready. grrr.. The last time we arrived they told us the site wasn't ready at 3:30pm. Instead of parking in overflow we drove down to where the site was to check it out to find it was completely empty, and looked to have already been cleaned off by the cleaning crew. In fact about a quarter to a third of the sites in the loop were unoccupied. I called the front desk and asked them if we could just park it since it obviously wasn't occupied. They made m -
Did online check-in change?
geoffdaddy replied to Tall Lady's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I will say that they have been more receptive to selecting a site once you get there than in previous trips. The trip before the last one I made a specific request not to be next to the main bus road in the camp, and sure enough we were given a site that placed the backside of the site about 10' away from the road. We used the nifty fort fiends app and noticed this when they told us our site number and asked if we could select another site. If we didn't have a 5 and 7 year old that are a bit flighty it probably wouldn't have been as much of an issue. Anyway we were instantly presented with abo -
Well that sounds a bit more generous than we got. We hounded them calling several times and had a couple people tell us that they'd call us right back in a few minutes. An hour later we'd call back, rinse repeat. Not a lot of information was forthcoming about our options only that it was pop century and the only indication was for a single night. In our case we had nine people on our reservation and they set us up with three adjacent rooms as a result. In actuality two of the people on our reservation only stayed with us the first two nights and despite me telling them we had no need for a th

Well, for one Pop Century is no Ft Wilderness. The room was fairly uncomfortable and only one nights accommodation was offered anyway. Plus at the time it appeared that Orlando was likely to get a direct hit and we didn't want to take a chance sticking around for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Can't believe it's been over a month since this happened. Still a bit miffed that it messed up our vacation by three days. GRRR!! Figured I'd give everyone the rest of the story. After we received the first notice, we dutifully complied and went to the front desk to update our particulars. There was a manager type, not a "Cast Member" as he was wearing a dark suit but still a Disney name tag. I presume the manager of the resort? Anyway, he told us that they would make their determination, likely in the morning or at least by noon on Wednesday what their plan was. On the way back to

My vote goes to worn out or bearings with no preload on them, but I see someone beat me to it. :) -
So, we are here right now. Cast members distributed flyers last night to indicate that management is considering evacuating the fort, determination of which should happen this morning sometime. They wanted to make sure that everyone's contact info up to date in that eventuality. They haven't given any firm details about plans beyond that but indicated that guest may be relocated to other resorts on a case by case basis subject to availability.

I thought the quiet pool was 24 hrs a day still, or at least I think it was when I first took notice. Not that we've ever visited it... :)

So is the final product done now? I have to know what to expect when we arrive in a couple weeks. :)

Ahhh... here we go... Walt Disney World Resort, in Central Florida (near Orlando). The zone extends to 3,000 feet (910 metres) in a 3-nautical-mile (5.6-kilometre) radius centered from the Main Spire of Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom Theme Park. Temporary restrictions over Disney parks were made permanent with language added to a 2003 federal spending bill.[11] -

IIRC, drones are prohibited around Disney not by virtue of Disney rules, but rather FAA rules... there is something like a 2-3 mile radius exclusion zone around WDW. -
Gas shortages in the south?
geoffdaddy replied to Beckers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I'll admit we did fill up right after I heard about it. Back in 2011 tornadoes tore through our part of the state in North Alabama and that left the power off in large areas for a good week. We had about a 1/4 tank of gas and I was concerned about where we were going to get more. Thankfully no real shortage materialized this time. If 2011 was any eye opener for us it was how woefully unprepared we were personally, and just how sorry local news media was. We probably would have made an impromptu trip to the fort then to avoid it if we had any clue if we could make it to a gas station with -
Funny thing... we took a picture of a hat with my iPhone that my wife liked at the Settlement Trading Post on this last trip we did the 1st week of the month, and looking back through my pictures just now it showed up as geotagged at "River Country Water Park." what the fort?

I'd wager there were a fair fewer numbers of Alligators in that lake when you were a kid out there from all accounts of the then endangered alligator population. It is kind of sad that some of the natural looking beauty has been lost in a way, but let's face it: Alligators are more prevalent on the water than they used to be. I think this incident was a result of a sort of hand waving on the part of local Disney execs: "Everyone knows the dangers of Alligators in Florida." Does everyone that visits Disney World know this? Disney has gone out of their way to project an illusion of safety b -
Cabins to Campsites on the 2100 Loop?
geoffdaddy replied to Avatab.... Steve's topic in Disney Rumors Board
When we were there a couple of weeks ago we went by and looked like the conversion was in full swing. I didn't hear what price point these sites are at, but hopefully these end up not being Premium sites. -
Rumor: So How Likely IS a 5th Park?
geoffdaddy replied to BradyBzLyn...Mo's topic in Disney Rumors Board
I agree with that, and we're the same in our family... we generally like to do MK and AK the best of all now. -
So far so good on ours... it sounds like the Toll-by-plate system is better than the one in the LA area. We were out there a couple years ago and ended up on a road that ONLY did toll by plate. "No worries! Just go to this website and pay your toll within 5 days to avoid a fine." The website was terrible and assumed you knew the date and entry/exit points along with your plate. What a pain.

Rumor: So How Likely IS a 5th Park?
geoffdaddy replied to BradyBzLyn...Mo's topic in Disney Rumors Board
I would prefer Disney spend some money on fixing Epcot vs building a new park. Worry about what you have first. -
I say this partly tongue in cheek, but there's nothing wrong with Disney that a good recession wouldn't cure.
-
I hope that is true. We just got back from the Fort a couple weeks ago and went to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach both and there's no contest... the family raft ride is considerably better at BB than TL, which is WAAAY too short. I do like the ambiance and the wave pool at TL better than BB.

A Frame campers ??
geoffdaddy replied to nomadicoasties's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
historically I was never a fan on the A-liner style campers, but I have to admit that the new ones with the dormers make a huge difference. I was impressed.
