  1. Coronavirus could be just the start of bad news for the tourism industry Link to the full article https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2020/03/17/coronavirus-could-be-just-the-start-of-bad-news-for-the-tourism-industry?utm_source=feature&utm_medium=home&utm_campaign=hpfeatures&utm_content=HomeTopFeature Excerpts Last week, when the required closures were becoming a reality, many hospitality leaders, such as those within theme parks and hotels, thought this time could be used to speed up construction projects. But as it becomes clear that gatherings
  2. I have a distant relative whose stance is "Does anyone personally know someone who has the virus ?" He doesn't know anyone, so he thinks it's all a media hoax/hype. He has been a strong supporter of a certain unnamed politician who has just changed his stance on this entire mess, so we will see if he changes his mind to match the politician.
  3. I saw a FB post where the poster said they were quarantined to their site. I asked it they were instructed to do that by Disney, but they replied it was a self quarantine because someone in their party has a compromised immune system.
  4. Mine was the drummers, just behind the Muppets in Liberty Square
  5. The juggler in France ITALY was axed also.
  6. You might want to edit this threads title to reflect the new closing information so we don't have multiple ones with the same info.
  7. All resorts closing on 3/20 at 5 pm All Disney stores closing 3/17. All Disney owned stores at Disney Springs and Downtown Disney closing 3/17. Other retailers will make their own decisions.
  8. They’ll just drive over in their free DVC air conditioned golf carts
  9. The British Revolution and Japanese Drummers last shows are today. They were notified yesterday that they will no longer be performing. Not sure if it’s the virus shutdown causing it or managements decision to get rid of live performances. Remember they got rid of the Muppets in Liberty Square then brought them back for a very short return engagement.
  10. The British Revolution band and the Japanese drummers last performances are today. They were informed yesterday that their gigs are done. The drummers have been performing for 25 years! This is crazy. Not sure if it’s because of the virus or just managements decisions to get rid of live performances.
  11. All Busch/Seaworld parks are closing after this weekend. Which gives everyone 2 more days to get infected from them, Disney and Universal and then spread it around! I've seen plenty of posts where people have changed their plans and are now heading to Disney before it closes. Guess that containment plan kind of backfired!
  12. DisneyLand is donating perishable foods to a food bank out there during the shutdown. At least something good is coming out of this mess. I guess since DW resorts are still operational, a lot of the parks foods can be used at the resorts.
  13. UPDATED INFO ON AP EXTENSIONS, REFUND POLICIES As the Walt Disney World Resort prepares for a lengthy closure of its theme parks over the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic beginning Monday, March 16th, the resort has released updated information concerning reservations, ticket expiration extensions, annual passes and more. TICKETS May I get a refund on my ticket? Unexpired multi-day theme park tickets with unused days, or date-specific theme park tickets with a start date on or before March 31, 2020 will automatically be extended to use any date through Decembe
  14. The last "official" word was that DS and the resorts were staying open. But this is a fairly fluid situation that could change at anytime. I could see them letting the current visitors stay until their reservations are done and not let any new ones book. One reason would be that a lot of the people have packages and would be upset if they pay the big $$$ for a room but can't go to the parks. At least you can find plenty to do at the Fort if they keep it open while the parks are closed.
  15. Well at least they can paint the castle during the day and have it done before they re-open. And catch up on maintenance for all the rides that keep breaking down!
  16. If they do, they will jack up prices to cover the cost, instead of chalking it up to operational costs and just absorb it.
  17. Never thought of the lasting mess. My grandkids aren't that interested in chalking up the campsite. BUT there are a couple of FB Disney groups that really go crazy on "Stop by and chalk our site" posts. This article would not make you any friends on that site ! And the non nozzle green hose that Disney uses to wet down the site sure doesn't have any good pressure to wash the markings off the pads.
  18. And they could be running into the issue of lost technology and repair parts being unavailable. Has the repair knowledge been passed down to the the next generation of maintenance workers, or are they too important to get their hands dirty actually replacing parts? Some people just want to fix everything from the comfort of their desk and their computer! Yuk, I got grease on my hands and dust in my hair!!! Even standard off the shelf parts that were common 40 years ago may no longer be available, and machinists needed to custom make parts are few and far between in the US now.
  19. I'm sure they still do overnight maintenance, but maybe not as extensive as they used to? Years ago, a former boss's father retired as an electrical engineer in PA and got a job at WDW. He was assigned the People Mover. They walked the entire track every evening looking for problems and running system checks on those components and the cars. Now with later closings and earlier openings (and by different reports reduced staffing) who knows what gets checked/repaired before problems arise. Look at a lot of the simple things that aren't being maintained like they used to, problem
  20. In less than a week, the Magic Kingdom saw a Jungle Cruise boat sink, an incident on the PeopleMover, and an unexpected closure of its Haunted Mansion. The no good, verybad week for Magic Kingdom points to a more significant issue facing Walt Disney World – and no matter how Disney chooses to address it, many guests will be left unhappy. While every attraction faces unplanned minor issues from time to time, the back-to-back-to-back major issues at the Magic Kingdom shows something bigger is happening. The Magic Kingdom remains the most visited theme park
