  1. Dorman's Lady Cavaliers just lost their Final Four game.  Boys' game coming up in about 15 minutes.  Dorman is playing Gaffney, who they split games with this year.  Gaffney beat Dorman by about 5 points in double overtime at Gaffney.  Dorman beat Gaffney by about 15 in regular play at Dorman.

Dorman boys didn't shoot well tonight.

Congratulations on clearing a hurdle. I am thankful it wasn't such an arduous process here in PA.

Can't beat a 38, it will fire after much abuse and neglect.

Thanks.  I can't believe it took so long.  And at least 7 more months until our CCPs arrive.  We are both making appointments to apply now, even though we haven't taken the class.

Congratulations on finally being able to possess what is your rightful property!

Thanks.  It's sad that rightful isn't always easy!

Congratulations Gwen. Do the purchase permits expire, just curious?

Derek, they are good for 5 years.  Once I get my CCP I won't need a purchase permit.  The CCP has to be renewed every 5 years.  I was just so angry over the long wait to get the purchase permit that I asked for 5.

    Congrats and nice choice

    Thanks, Ray!

  3. After waiting the required 14 days I picked up my multiple purchase permits today.  The date on my permits that I applied for on 2/6?  They were issued on 2/9!  So why did I have to wait 14 days?

We immediately drove to our gun store in Charlotte and picked up the guns I had on layaway.  I'm now the proud owner of a S&W 38 special revolver and a S&W 357 magnum talo edition revolver.  And three more purchase permits in hand.

As of today the CCP appointments are open for early July.  Ugh.  But plenty of time for me to visit the range several times and pass my CCP class/test.

Now I'm a pistol-packing grandma (better known as Gigi by my grandchildren).

  4. Dorman just won their Sweet 16 game.  Gabe had a good game.  Excited to see who they play next.

And just heard their chief rival lost in an upset tonight.  That means their next opponent will be a team they have beaten twice this year.

  5. A basketball update ... so far I've only bragged about Gabe.  But he has two younger brothers who are brag-worthy too.

This is Caden, his 11 year old brother.  Caden plays Upward basketball.  His season isn't over quite yet.  He scored 17 points in his last game.

Ethan, Gabe's 15 year old brother, is 6'4" and plays power forward for Dorman's JV team.  JV doesn't have state playoffs, but they did win their final tournament.  Hopefully next year Gabe and Ethan will be playing on the same team.

Meanwhile Gabe's team made the state playoffs.

Their arena holds 7,000 people.  Like a small college arena.  It's amazing.

Their jumbotron is the third largest in the southeast US ... the only larger ones are owned by professional teams including the Charlotte Hornets. An alumnus donated this one.

Gabe didn't get a lot of playing time.  The opponent consisted of a lot of short guys ... basically five guards.  Gabe is just too big to compete against them.

But he didn't let that stop him.  In his few brief minutes of play he achieved a layup, several blocks, several rebounds, a few dunks including this reverse dunk that brought the crowd to their feet ...

I don't know for sure. But iirc it's suppose to be one seat one person.   We were told that my DD, who was 7 or 8 at the time, is not suppose to ride between us up front.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the subject can jump in.

We've had as many as 7 on our 4-person cart and no one has said anything to us.  But 4 of those passengers were children, and we had our own private cart. Maybe that makes a difference.

  7. Disappointed that I haven't heard from the NRA rep.  But today I finally got to apply for 5 purchase permits.  If I'm not notified that I've been denied, I pick them up in 14 days.  Stupid questions on the application -- like "are you a fugitive from justice?"

Now the wait to apply for a CCP is four months.  And then another 60-90 days to find out whether I've been approved.  Plenty of time for me to practice at the range and go to my CC classes.

Oh and one more tip if you get her a scooter set it to turtle (slow) unless your family is speed walkers. My grandma used to take off and I'd be chasing after her, finally one time I just let her go and when she figured out she had lost us she slowed it down and made sure we could keep up.

Haha ... your mother is young enough to figure this out.  I rarely set my scooter to turtle.  Only when I'm in a huge crowd.

Size is probably a good consideration....out of the park not so much as we're considering a golf cart rental for The Fort and everywhere else, she should be okay.

Maybe a wheelchair for the parks if she needs one??  I don't know... AK is pretty bumpy.

Can she reasonably get from the car to the entrance to the park?  And what if she gets into a park but no scooters are available?

David had to push me around in a wheelchair several years ago after I fell in MK.  It wore him out.  Even in MK, where everything appears pretty flat.

  10. Before I bought my own scooter, I always rented from Walker Mobility.  Meeting them for pickup and return was no big deal.  They would call me when they were on their way. Customer service was excellent, and their price was much better than everyone else I checked.

I would never rent a scooter from Disney for two reasons:  one, they are way too big and clunky.  Two, you can't take them out of the parks.

  11. Maybe it's just me, but I think there's a significant difference in security in a TT or 5'er versus a Class A.  When we traveled in a TT, we always stopped at a hotel on the way down and back.  In our Class A, we lock ourselves in before dark at a FJ or CB.  And we sufficiently "pack"  to stop anyone who gets in.

  12. Welcome to the group!

We pick up 95 at the 26 entrance in SC.  Have stayed at Pilot/Flying J and Cracker Barrels many times.  We always stay at the Flying J in St. Augustine on the way down and usually at the Cracker Barrel in Walterboro, SC, on the way home.  No need to be afraid, just aware of your surroundings.
