  1. That's awesome that you won a trip. What was the contest? One reason I never enter trip contests is that they are almost always for 4 and we have 5. I know no one is going to want to stay home and adding the 5th person would cost money that I didn't have. I agree with the others. Enjoy your free.
  2. I was upset when they only had handle-less mugs in September but I bought one anyway. Then we found they could be stack together and take up a lot less room in the backpack. And I now take mine for all travel in my husband's SUV because the center cupholder has no room for a handle mug. So now I'm glad for the lack of handle.
  3. That's really funny. That word has too many a's and u's to keep up with anyway. My son went to an invitational cross country meet where the word invitational was spelled wrong on the t-shirts. After someone pointed it out they marked them down from $15 to $5 but only after they'd sold a bunch at $15. My son and several of his teammates bought them for $5 because it had the name of the rival high school that was hosting it along with the misspelling.
  4. I'm really loving your report of a place I've never been but hope to go some day. I remember how much I enjoyed your report on your trip to China also. It's sweet to see your boys having so much fun together.
  5. I'm another fan of the buses. I've gotten lost several times trying to follow the less than clear signs around WDW. And if you are trying to do as much as you can, there's nothing like letting the bus driver take you "home" at the end of a long day when you're exhausted. Just allow some extra time if you're trying to get somewhere by a particular time.
  6. The article says when he realized he had a gun in his bag he put the gun between his back and pants. It was only when he was randomly selected after bag check that he admitted having it. The other article says "At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests without bags are now being directed down a new route where they are forced to be screened a metal detector." Shouldn't they be requiring EVERYONE bag check or not to go through the metal detector then? Over Labor Day weekend my one son gave the rest of us his "stuff" to carry (rain jacket and water bottle) before bag check so that he could go
  7. I see this is on all the DCL descriptions of these cruises, and I know it sounds more exotic to say it, but I don't think of Key West as being in the Bahamas.
  8. I'm sure this is going to turn out to be something much more minor and boring than my interest in it, but here is my totally made up and not likely theory, based on analyzing this one picture that we don't even know when or why it was taken and my searching around the interwebs. There are recently revived rumors (were they reported here?) that the Great Movie Ride is going to be re-created as the Great Mickey Ride. So the brochure is for the announcement of that new attraction -- note the historic skinny Mickey on the cover -- that is going to take place at the Theater of the Stars on some
  9. My experience with FP+ was definitely keep trying. We didn't go during an overly busy week but I starting making my FP+ from about 50 days out up to the days of the visit and things were constantly appearing and disappearing. Times wouldn't be available when I made them so I'd make it for a different time and then do Modify and other times would be available that I didn't see the first time. It's very annoying and time consuming.
  10. LOL. I know one member of this board who's stayed in one of them and she humbly admits she's not a big deal, just got a dose of pixie dust one time at check in.
  11. Unless they misspelled narration! And looking at the spacing, it has to be a very short word, or no word, before the ....aration word. The brochure says "Announcing the New Addition to Disney's Hollywood Studio" not a New Addition. What does that mean? Also, what is SHS? I couldn't find anything for that related to Disney. Just a lot of high schools with those initials. That crest the SHS is in does remind me of Beauty and the Beast, so it could be connected to that special event, which sounds like a lot of fun.
  12. I love a good mystery - From the internet search for "words that end in ARATION": Exhilaration Declaration Preparation Reparation Separation Any ideas?
  13. You could always put up a sign that says "WELCOME [wife's name] and [son's name]. I missed you". That would let everyone know you're waiting for others and keep them from thinking you're strange. Or maybe that's what a strange person would do. I don't know.
  14. We didn't have any problems with the older ones or the newer ones even though mine had a pretty large extra flap. But on the morning we were checking out of All Star Music last month I put my purple one in my pocket because I was sad that I wasn't going to the parks that day and didn't want my wrist to think it was (or some reasoning like that), and somehow lost it. Now I'm stuck with my two yellow ones from previous visits before there was purple. Very sad about that. Moral: safer on the wrist than in the pocket.
  15. So they tell people to stay in their rooms and the ones who don't get characters and candy. Nice lesson.
  16. Just all the $$ you're going to spend in World of Disney and the other shops before and after meeting the princesses, especially if you have to wait around a while for a return time. Smart move, Disney.
  17. Adding to or confirming other suggestions: I love BTMRR and hate Everest, and the fastest ride I go on in Dollywood is Firechaser Express. Ride the train. It's great to get off your feet, relax and enjoy the scenery. I've never tried the cinnamon bread but it smells wonderful. All my snack $ goes to the Kettle Corn which I highly recommend if you like kettle corn. I love to take a bag of kettle corn on the train. Make sure your kids meet Miss Lillian. Check out the Dreammore resort. I'm not really into any particular type of music, but shows I like are My People
  18. Following the detour this thread has taken – OP – Hey, did anyone see this tv show filmed in Disney World ? Detour – All TV is trash these days There are few nighttime tv shows on any network I’d watch with younger children. My teens are almost 16 and almost 18 and I enjoy watching some of the ABC family sitcoms with them because they can relate to when the joke is on stereotyping teenager behavior and understand that tv is a make-believe world, compare and contrast to your own world experience. We actually didn’t have cable, or dish or whatever, until my kids were 11 and 13 so

  20. Anyone see this giant commercial for WDW, and particularly VIP touring, last night? I generally watch this show and enjoy the characters, although it has its strong and weak episodes. Last night they took a VIP visit to WDW that would make anyone want to pull out their wallet and go there immediately. They mentioned Epcot and Animal Kingdom but sort of meshed all the parks together. They laughed at all the people waiting in the standby lines and the awkwardness of bypassing them (for them as VIPs but I sometimes get a similar feeling when in the FP+ line, and then I get over it like they did.
  21. Did they still have the stands set up in the parks and Disney Springs? They did over Labor Day weekend, with both products: http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/08/photos-disney-world-rolls-free-mosquito-repellent-combat-zika-virus/ http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/09/photo-disney-world-changes-complimentary-mosquito-repellent-less-1-week-starting-program-fight-zika/ At Epcot we saw a a couple of older teens/early 20s pump handfuls of the foamy Picaridin and then spread it all over their faces like a beard to the amusement of the rest of their group. The CM at the table was talking to someone a
  22. Well, dang. I really liked the new Soarin and so did my family, We were so impressed with the photogrpahy. And now I'm not. Bad Bad Bad Disney.
  23. I looked at the crowd calendars (whichever one was free, now I can't remember maybe EasyWDW) and made our plans accordingly for our Labor Day weekend. And then we swapped around things to do what we felt like doing and I think ended up in the non-recommended parks or parks each day (two days we did 2 parks). The crowd calendar numbers were lower than what I thought the crowds actually were (much of my limited previous experience being Easter and Thanksgiving weeks). My feeling was that the hurricane/tropical storm and subsequent rip tides may have sent people to WDW instead of their planned tr
