  1. Need a stop about halfway!
  2. Trying to plan a trip from birmingham,AL to key west! Suggestions for good stops and nice family campgrounds.
  3. Looking to do a BIG family trip next summer. Anyone done either of these?
  4. Just back yesterday! Beautiful park in the middle of nowhere but resting on the shore of part of the Alabama River. Clean, Clean, Clean! Level paved lots that were HUGE - some 90 ft long! Big gravel areas with fire rings and nice picnic tables. Not a heck of a lot to do but quiet and very relaxing!
  5. Reservations here in September. Love that you can reserve a specific site and that they have huge sites as well as pull thrus.
  6. We have a 37' fiver. Had trouble in the full hook-up sites due to tight turns with trees, etc. in the way. We will never sig nup for anything but a premium! Please see May trip report where we got stuck in the sand and had the entire loop blocked!
  7. No sites are full hook up! We LOVE this place but on our last trip - which was our fist with the 5'er had great difficulty getting into any spot! Roads narrow, pull troughs taken by tent campers! Ended up on the East rim first site on the entrance! Wasn't bad site but we may not hurry back due to the backing difficulties. Also - this trip we had TONS onf tent campers and they had anywhere from 2 - FIVE tents on a site and nothing was done. The five tent site was right next door to us and they were LOUD and they had at least 6 cars- some of which were parked on our site!
  8. Just back from the Fort. We liked the Magic bands. Yes I thought it made other lines longer but we tend to go to the park to ride certain things and eat and then head back to chill at the Fort. DH has said next Orlando trip we will stay at the Fort and head to Universal on park days. DD is more of a thrill ride kind of girl! Sad to say this trip confirmed that she has outgrown the Magic Kingdom - even though her 50 year old mother hasn't outgrown it. Just sighed when my two folks turned to me on Peter Pan and said "when do we get to shoot at stuff" !!! UGH!
  9. Stayed at Big Oak - was OK. Kind of a dump and if you need a bath house you are out of luck as the only one is behind the front office. it worked for us but we won't rush back.
  10. So excited - onlyfive days until we are at the FOrt!
  11. Ended up making a ressie at Big Oak RV park in Tallahassee. ALL of the state parks booked solid!
  12. Title says it all. May stop overnight somewhere and wanted suggestions. Usually drive through Dothan and head down that way. Tallahassee? Or should we try to make it farther?
  13. Pine trees fall! Especially in storms with high winds. Hate to see them go but totally understand the reason.
  14. Well duh! Could have sworn when I looked I saw a campground. Maybe just wishful thinking.
  15. Title says it all. Looking for new place to explore next weekend. We live in Birmingham,AL and want something under 3 hours drive
  16. Oh goody! WOuld love to join the group! Ya'll look like you have a great time. Will it be announced on here?
  17. We went to beautiful Cloudland State park in Trenton, GA. This may be our new favorite place! Beautiful place with clean well laid out campsites. We atayed on the East rim which is more open but will try the wooded West Rim next time. Bath houses spotless even though they are probably built about 40 years ago. Were cleaned at least twice a day that we could tell. Not a bit of trash anywhere and I credit that to the campground hosts who were always out and about, also to strategically placed trash cans throughout the campground.
  18. Just got back from Stone MOuntain and can highly recommend site 335 and surrounding sites. On the lake and beautiful view of mountain. No cable hookup but water, sewer and electric.
  19. Just back! Loved FDR state park. New camper performed well although DH not happy with how it pulled - some issues with getting it level. Kinda hard to tell as it was EXTREMELY windy on all three transfers. Other than that really happy with it. Excellent shower!
  20. This is our FAV place in Alabama and it is one of the better state parks. They totally redid the campgrounds a few years ago - before the money to state parks ran dry. Others are not so great for RVs. Cheaha is terrible if you are in an RV but if you like to tent camp is a wonderful spot. We have also been to Lake Guntersville - it was hit by the April 27th tornadoes and is just starting to come back. No trees anymore thought thanks to the storms. Wind Creek State park at Lake Martin is beautiful but in some areas too crowded.( we loved the upper loop).
  21. New camper means camping for spring break this year! We bought a Jayfeather 29N Ultralite. So excited as this is our second camper and first with a slide! Wow what a difference it makes. So we are headed to Stone Mountain for a few days to start Spring Break and then down to FDR State Park for a few days ( haven't been to Callaway Gardens since I was a kid). Then ending up in our fav campground in Alabama Desoto Sate Park in Mentone. A week in the camper which will be the longest trip so far with our FW trip which was 5 days. We've camped at Stone Mountain in a tent several times but neve
  22. Stayed at Little MOuntain Marina Resort this weekend! Beautiful spot. Clean campground, nice bath houses. HAd seen some negative reviews on long term campers there but we stayed at the opposite end of where we saw ' long term' looking campers. Very nice, quiet and well kept.
  23. Made a reservation at Stone MOuntain today because I could get a great rate and reserve a specific spot. Still exploring my options though!
