Let's Talk Turkey: TCD's 2016 Thanksgiving at the Fort Trip Report

Maybe the BABH is going to be like Perky's Bat house in the Keys. Hasn't attracted a bat since it was built in 1929. -

Dually
BigTom replied to twiceblessed....nacole's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
I went from dual wheels to single wheels and back to dual wheels, the stability of the ride and the increased weight capacity and safety of dual wheels can not compare to SRW trucks. It is a little more problem parking, but after you get use to the width, does not really cause any worries. For a 5th wheel, I would not even consider SRWs, that tongue weight will be more than most imagine, I think the last 5th wheel was 1700 lbs tongue weight, but could have been different. -

At that price, you could get 2 or 3 of them if you need more waffles at the time. -
Site Request Suggestions
BigTom replied to Roberta's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
2001 is in sight of comfort station and is backed up to a stream with no one close to you, we were just in 2002 and that site is just around a curve in the road. No one is walking through or close to your site because of the location and is far enough away from the bus stop that the buses do not brother you, but is close enough to walk to bus with no problem. We decided the first 2 sites in 2000 loop are the best we have ever been in. -
Yes, if site is not ready, you will need to park in over flow lot until they notify you, but I have been able to get in as early as 10:00 and have seen some pull in even earlier.

Maybe it is their way to keep an eye on the 3000 loop -
Take a few minutes to walk through the gardens, it will give you an idea of how Cypress Gardens used to be and is a very pretty area to see. I haven't been in several years, bu my wife and GKs go several times a year. It is just about 20 miles from us. I enjoy the island in the sky ride there, gives a very good view of surrounding area.

Need advice on time of year
BigTom replied to rtaylor0830's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I would choose May over August. I think Judy is still a travel agent, but Jason is the one most reccomended and helps support this board. -
Maybe they just had magical day with pixie dust sprinkled on it. Something sure seems a little odd about it, I have been in several hurricanes and never seen one with no damage to the buildings, even the one designed to stand hurricane force winds usually get a little damage.
-
Don`t know, it messed up Haiti and Saint Augustine real good, a well as North Carolina. We didn`t get much here though.

Maybe they have a big crew to clean up and rebuild fast.
-
I agree with TCD, the buildings look like old shacks, must be built better than they look. I thought a good wind of hurricane force would level most of them. The designers did a real good job of making them just look old and falling in, but with a solid build.

I wonder how much damage is being done on Castaway Cay.

Are the playgrounds dangerous?
BigTom replied to 4as - Amy's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Play grounds are play grounds, could a kid get hurt, sure, but it is a part of growing up.You need to keep a eye on your kids and protect them as much as possible. There is not a Cast member stationed at the playgrounds. -

I agree Kieth, you get more education in college in dorms dealing with other people than you do in a class room. I had a professor once tell me the education you get in college is to learn where to get the answers you need, what you learn in class will be mostly forgotten or out of date in just a few years. -
They wear hats with beads hanging on them to keep biting flies off in back country in Australia, might work for yellow flies and mosquitoes.

Gas shortages in the south?
BigTom replied to Beckers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I remember those days, there was not any shortage of gas, I bought gas everyday in my work truck and never saw a station that had no gas, the bulk plants were even filling up the tanks at closed station because they did not have enough storage capacity in their yards. It was just a reason to raise the price per gallon. There was a closed station across the street from my in laws and we would watch the tankers come in late at night to drop off fuel and when they claimed the shortage was over and the price went up they came and pumped it back out. -
There are a lot of Snowbird parks around here, usually a retired person buys a park model trailer and rents the lot for a yearly rate. They pay their own utilities and some live in them year around. It is real convenient, no yard work or worries about the property. Also not as much worry about break in because they are close together and everyone looks out for their neighbors. I have several in my SS class that have second homes like this and come down every winter to live here where it is warmer. Most parks have organized thing to do, rec centers, etc, and some are even on golf courses if tha

Gas shortages in the south?
BigTom replied to Beckers's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Every station around here, south of Lakeland has fuel, haven't heard of any shortage from any one.
