Yesterday would have been a good day to tour, I was mowing and saw considerable wildlife including an alligator plus they were picking oranges and cutting watermellons, was a lot going on here.

Wish I had seen this earlier, I have a orange grove and would love to have you come see it. Even let you pick some and will allow you to camp in my yard most any time.

Trails End Hula Hoops are Gone :-(
BigTom replied to GaDawgFan.....Kelly's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
While I hate to see them gone, I understand the problem with them at that position in Fort Wilderness. That area gets crowded at times and the people playing with them are not concerned with anyone around them and leave them on the ground making them a tripping hazard. Some like me have had a problem affecting balance an it doesn't take much to cause a real serious injury. If they are going to have them there should be a fenced area not in a major walkway for them, I have had problems getting down steps and pass there. -
It is peak tourist time here year around, we are use to the higher prices and did not think to even mention it. Gas went up again this week preparing for summer travelers.

You won't be too far from Gettysburg, Pa. Might want to consider a day trip to the battlefield and museum.

How much candy at Halloween?
BigTom replied to Roberta's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
There is usually a crowd come in that are not staying at the Fort and even local people will come in just for T or T. 2000 loop is not in the center of things like 1500 so not as many outsiders come around there. -

I also have a tent site reserved, we might be neighbors but I want 2000 loop, it won't be as crowded with outsiders as 1500 -
How much candy at Halloween?
BigTom replied to Roberta's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
I suggest that you don't but too much, you want to not have any left. Just give it out until you run out and don't worry about not having any, there will be plenty there and no one will fuss at you. -
How much candy at Halloween?
BigTom replied to Roberta's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
We were in 2000 last year and passed out about 5 lbs of assorted candies. Just bought the bags of assorted individual wrapped candies and enjoyed sitting in loop entrance and meeting the people. Was not a big group but had a good time. Have another reservation for this year and hope to get same site again, we were at the very first of the 2000 loop. This year should not be too crowed as Halloween is on Wednesday and not the weekend. -
I like Tracrock Gap Campground between Blairsville and Young Harris, Ga.

Surprised they did not put them in 1500 -
5th Wheel tripod thing...
BigTom replied to twiceblessed....nacole's topic in RV Repairs on the Road, at FW and Elsewhere
Do you need one, no, but you might want it if there is too much movement in trailer. I had two 5th wheels over a lot of years and never had one, The movement never brothered any of us, but if you have a larger unit and a little movement brothers you, you might try one, I would try to borrow one to see if it helped. I always thought it was just another thing to take up space and was not really needed. -
I turn at the light before Publix, you can see the store and come in on the back side. It is also easier to leave that way too.

How Many Tents on One Site?

The most I have seen was in the 1500 loop, 5 tents and 3 pop up canopies. -

Another than to consider, a large used truck just to tow with and a smaller w/better millage vehicle to daily drive. -

Does your 2500 have semi floating axles or full floating rear axle, 3500 usually has heavier rear bearings and hubs than a 2500 -
Trash receptacles
BigTom replied to Andrew Roberts's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
e Something else to think about, I was there when they had a fire call, some fool had dumped their burning charcoal in one of the trash drums and started a fire, the new trash cans shut and will smother out a fire. He claimed this was a common ocurance and maybe this is another safety measure. They had the loop closed and several fire trucks were there. -
I have been in 1500 loop with several of these groups and it makes the 2000 loop look much tamer, mostly because it is larger.

Trash receptacles
BigTom replied to Andrew Roberts's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Not only bears, we have other wildlife that get into trash bins, squirrels, foxes, panthers, opossums, hogs, cayotes, buzzards and others are all attracted by garbage. -

You can also take my word for it, entirely different critters out at night than in daylight. Everyone should try scuba, entirely different world under water.

Fitting In - in a different way ...
BigTom replied to Roberta's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Don't sweat the 2000 loop, it is no worse that the 1500 loop and is our favorite loop for our pop up. Be sure to request a site close to comfort station.
