  1. We will probably only do breakfast, it's cheaper (there will be 9 of us!) and the little ones (2 and 1 year old) are in much better spirits in the mornings. My life and vacation schedule rotates around their nap schedule :rofl2:

Don't forget taxi driver for the older ones to all their activities. Wow to think we actually had our own lives at one time. :rofl2:

  2. Hey we park in that same place when we go into Gatlinburg too! It seems we also eat at the same restaurants.

When we were there in October they had the parade of General Lee cars down the main road. We missed it, but still saw plenty of them over that weekend.

My kids all remember that from the Ober Gatlinburg tram you can see the Barbie House. They keep asking us if we can stay there. :rofl2:

  3. We really liked the Character Dinner at 1900 Park Faire in the Grand Floridian.

One of my friends has gone to both the breakfast and dinner here. She said both were good. Different characters at each. Alice in Wonderland and others in the morning and Cinderella, Prince Charming and others for dinner. Based on the ages of your older children I would say either breakfast or dinner here would be a good choice.

  4. This is great! We love Smoky Bear Campground. For awhile we were spending all our fall breaks there. Then my son got really busy with football and gas prices went up :argh: so, the last time we went to Gatlinburg we ended up not taking the camper and just staying at a condo right in town. I really missed being at the campground. I love that when I would call to make reservations Chong would really take the time to find out about what you were towing, how many would be there and try to find the best site for you. Then when you get there they go out of their way to make sure you are happy.

  5. Great start! I know what you mean about children and them being use to long car trips. We travel from Alabama to central Nebraska at least once a year to see dh's family and if we aren't traveling in that direction we are headed to Maryland to see mine. My son has been traveling so much see he was a baby (he's 15 now) that as soon as we get in the car to go on a trip he just falls right to sleep. On our last trip we hadn't even made it out of the driveway yet. :rofl2: My girls do pretty good too, but my youngest tends to pack her whole playroom of toys.:rofl2:

I wish we had done what you did on our first trip there as a family (January 2010). We did go to DTD, but I didn't even think of seeing how the boats work and visiting some of the other resorts. Oh well gives me something to look forward to on our next trip.

  6. Like everyone else has already stated, I am so glad that you all are safe and were able to walk away from the accident.

We don't have any dogs, but we are very strict about the use of the seat belts in the car for people. I am even a stickler when it comes to car seats and boosters. My youngest who turned 9 in March still rides in her booster (though she has many friends who do not) because she is still too short to properly fit an adult seat belt.

I am going to share this with my sister and her husband as they do have a dog and I know for a fact they do not crate him when they travel.

  7. Our favorite campground in that area is Smoky Bear Campground in Cosby, TN. It's closer to Gatlinburg. The owners are on site and super nice. They have a welcome letter filled with ideas of free and not free things to do in the area. Also they try to do activities there at the campground to encourage fun and fellowship like line dancing, games etc. One time when we were there my youngest dd won a stuffed bear. She was able to put a wooden coin between her legs and drop into in a jug. Yep my girl's got talent! :rofl2:

It looks like during the time that you are there they will have their 6th annual apple harvest contest.

We have not stayed in the tent area before and it is primitive so that may factor into your choice. I will tell you though the bath house was super clean.

  8. I told myself I wasn't going to post a trip report since there will be multiple reports over the next couple of weeks, but what the heck right?

We were lucky enough to book a last minute 3 night stay at the Fort beginning Thursday 6/30 and arriving home, well about 2 hours ago. I found out over this past weekend that I was able to take a long weekend so we made arrangements to visit our favorite place. I have to work tomorrow, so we could not stay for all the fun events that take place Monday.

Ahh now that's the life.

After we got set up and the rain came, the boys took advantage of the puddles and flew through them on their bikes.

Well of course who would let a perfectly good puddle go to waste?

Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip.
