  1. You took some great photos of Roger Williams Park. That place looks amazing and would be fun to spend a day or more exploring. It looked like you had some good weather, too. I wish I had that kind of luck!
  2. Halifax, Nova Scotia We arrived in a fog shrouded Halifax with the Magic sounding her fog horn every few minutes. George's Island We had a nature and whale watching excursion that morning. Saint John also had a whale watching excursion, and the odds of seeing whales in the Bay of Fundy is a lot better than off Halifax, but the Saint John shorex is a whole day event. We didn't know if everyone would be up to a possibly rockier boat for eight hours, so we opted for Halifax. FIL was still feeling under the weather, so he stayed on the ship. There was a short walk from the pier to the Halifa
  3. Disneyland was Walt's first park for families. Club 33 serves alcohol.
  4. And do they have back-up back up cameras in case the back up cameras are not working?
  5. I should mention that there were a few mechanical problems with our rooms. The In-laws had an accessible room and their shower drains weren't working so water flowed into the room. They didn't call to the front desk or let us know so we could, but apparently they flagged down a uniformed ship's crew who grabbed a bunch of towels to mop up. The next morning we called guest services to report it. Our shower had the minor issue of water flowing out the tub spigot even when the knob was set to shower. Not a big deal, but later in the morning it suddenly decided to stay on so we couldn't shut
  6. I think MNSSHP has the best parade around, and I love the transformation that Main Street makes is amazing and fun. We never do the candy stations (no kids) but enjoyed dressing up in costume, though many don't. I have heard others complain about crowds but we have always enjoyed short lines.
  7. Day at Sea The first and last full days of the cruise were days at sea. On the first sea day we had spa appointments. FIL and I were up first with a shave in the salon. FIL is a major western and cowboy fan so I think he was hoping for an old fashioned straight blade and leather strop kind of shave. I was kind of hoping it was too. I had tried to get an old fashioned shave on Main Street, USA once, but discovered they do not have the license to even do it with a Bic. We were in the capable hands of Zoe from South Africa. FIL was up first. He was first covered with a warm towel, then Zoe
  8. This is what have been told also, and that those with the best comment cards get the best shifts, move to better positions, etc. Maybe this works differently on land than at sea, Lou?
  9. As for your confounding question, is it King Leonardo or Gandalf?
  10. I have been surprised several times to find out MDR server working on Deck 9 or clearing tables in Topsiders at lunch. They can serve two seatings at dinner, the pirate misnight buffet, and then serve breakfast the next day. And the room stewards seem to be working hard up and down the hallway when you get up in the morning, throughout the day, and late into the evening. In addition to being generous with the tip, it is always good to give them a good word on the end-of-cruise survey, even better to send a letter to let Disney know who really made your vacation shine.
  11. Especially when you have a stroller or wheelchair because you will be taking up most of the car. It's entertaining to read the capacity of an elevator car, isn't it? i think some are marked for 12 people! Yes, dorky is one of my specialties! It was nice to be able to take my in-laws. They are simple folks and never really were able to take vacations when they were running their restaurant. After his stroke, they had to sell and have lived a quiet retirement since then. Nicole and I knew that anything Disney would be a perfect fit since they do such a great job in making vacationing easy
  12. We are in the Lakes Region, but I work in Manchester. I think the Loudon and Canterbury area is a place where we have thought about moving to. Close to the city, but not too far from the lakes (and our kin folk).
  13. NYC Embarkation Day I couldn't sleep so at 3 or 4am I went outside and took a few pictures. Being a country mouse, I didn't dare stray too far, but i was amazed at how busy it was at that hour. It really is the city that never sleeps! There were people outside the Hotel lounges, ladies with shopping bags, police officers on their beat, workers on their way to or from work, and the whole are smelled like tasty chili for some reason. It wasn't long before everyone else was awake and ready to go. I had originally planned to walk a couple blocks away to a bagel place and bring it back for every
  14. That is definitely where existing utilities are. Orange flags and paint are for low voltage light cable tv, data, and telephone. Red is power, yellow is propane/natural gas, blue is water, green is sewer and white is what the the engineer thinks they should dig up. I think they may use white also to delineate the area which has been surveyed for underground facilities.
  15. I didn't notice it until I was running it through photoshop, but I see it, too. I will leave its classification to the experts :)It was definitely a portent of the week ahead. I hope you enjoyed your cruise, it looked like the weather may not have been with you that week.We took the Concord Coach, and if we do anything similar again, we will skip the bus altogether and take a private shuttle straight to South Station. Maybe a little more money, but less baggage transfers and no bus stations. Suprisingly and I think disapointingly, beyond the obvious there isn't that much different between
  16. On our last cruise we took advantage of the on-board booking discount and credit by making another reservation while still cruising. My wife wanted to share the experience of cruising with her parents, so we decided to book two cabins. The five-night New York City to the Canadian Maritimes cruises looked good--not too long, not too short, and didn't require a flight. My wife picked up a DCL lanyard on the ship and a WDW lanyard in the parks. I printed up a little description of the cruise and of a typical WDW vacation, and we presented them with the lanyards and brochures for Christmas with
  17. I was temporarily assigned to work in the Portsmouth area a couple of Springs, and I enjoyed it. I spent many a lunch hour at Prescott Park watching the ships go in and out and the bridge going up and down. I also took the coast road through Rye every change that I could.
  18. It's always surprising how a vacation can seem so far away and suddenly it is next week and hurtling toward you!
  19. I haven't used it, but people have posted that they use Avery magnetic paper before. I think that people have had different experiences with different manufacturers. Just a caveat, I used some magnetic paper from eBay that was stored and mailed curled up. It never wanted to be flat after that and was difficult to stick on the stateroom door. I would recommend getting something that is stored flat. Many people also just print onto cardstock, or photo print and laminate. You can get rolls of magnet tape, cut it into pieces and stick the magnets to the back. It cuts pretty easily. I use sci
  20. I'm still waiting for the Jungle Cruise movie...
  21. Original Disneyland CM tag 1975-1976 Walt Disney World CM tag
  22. I'm watching the Olympic torch being rowed on the Thames. Very cool! http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay
