  1. Yes, it's open 24 hours but as others have said they will probably say no that early. If they don't let you stay you are in a trick bag because all of the surrounding government jurisdictions prohibit "camping" anywhere other than a campground. You will be asked to leave if you try to sleep at WalMart or any of the other big box store lots. Like you I always leave early but I stop in northern FL where WalMarts, Flying J and rest areas will allow you to sleep. I then get up early and drive in in the AM.
  2. I,usually avoid truck stop stays as they can be very noisy. I stick with the Florida welcome station or highway rest areas. The closer you get,to Disney the more restrictive local jurisdictions get about overnight camping at anywhere other than a campground.
  3. dave, double check but most coaches have one built in. But, with that being said a friend pointed out that having a portable one plugged in to the pedestal take a hit is much less hassle than having to take the coach in to have it replaced if it is damaged in a surge.
  4. Multiple faxes are annoying and will probably get you the site that holds water on the tent pad :argh: Actually, I think two days is a little too late. The best description of the room assignemtn process and faxing requests I have read is on Allears.net They specifically say:
  5. The answers to your questions are yes, & yes. It's your campsite, so camp the way you like. You will have campers on both sides of you, but who cares. You are at the Fort - have fun!
  6. As others have pointed out, not a necessity - but really nice!! Even renting off site it will be expensive for three weeks. Also remember, your reservation is for a level of site - not a specific loop, in your case Preferred. You could end up on 100, 200, or 300 as all of these are Preferred.
  7. i prefer wine, but a cold beer is really nice on a hot day. Siting next to the camper on the beach in SC with a glass of white......
  8. I'm sure you will never see an official answer, but figure a hotel room hold 4 people and a campsite 10. The couldn't afford to feed 10 people for the cost of a campsite.....
  9. For those that are mechanically inclined you can install one permanently. This avoids the possibility of someone stealing it or the hassle of locking it to the pedestal every time you use it. Additionally you get an LED display to show electrical usage and the status of the electrical connection. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/30-amp-surge-protector-with-voltage-protection/56419 As I was going to have to work on the electricd wire where it entered the camper I also added a "Detachable Power Conversion Kit". I always hated trying to push the power cord back into the mouse-hol
  10. When we had the pop up we always had out extra small tent on the site. It saved a walk to the comfort station in the middle of then night lots of times.
  11. Yup! We seem to have the least expensive gas around. But, look at the condition of our roads.......
  12. Just like some others, Niko has a sensitive stomach. Through trial and error we have found that a mix of about 75% Blue Wilderness and 25% Royal Canin German Shepherd food works best for him.
  13. They do exist. I was out there for one afternoon a few years ago and a co-worker from the LA office was able to get me a one day for $55. OK, it was a one park pass, but stil it saved a lot. When all was said and done I paid $55 to ride Soarin.....
  14. I'm not buying it. Disney didn't do that work for free. If my camper got hit by lightning then my insurance company would just have it towed to a repair facility to evaluate if it should be fixed or totaled. No need to pay FW to "secure" it and keep it on a site at FW.
  15. X2 When towing I always check pressure cold in the AM and do a walk around at all stops. On my first trip out the pressure monitor picked up a slow leak that I did not see during my usual walk around at fuel stops. Had a drywall screw in the tread. I was able to watch the pressure on the monitor and stop to add when necessary. Got it patched at the destination.
  16. Today's Sentinel has the following article: Disney's vintage Polynesian hotel gets makeover http://www.sun-sentinel.com/travel/os-disney-polynesian-village-remodel-20140515,0,2557215.story
  17. I, for one didn't mind the wind on the way up; it was the fog on the way down that bothered me.
  18. Great, as much as folks think their "little bit of water" dumped on the ground doesn't amount to much, consider the cumulative effects of multiple campers doing the same thing year round. Back in 2001 The state of Florida in their infinite wisdom prohibited the use of portable transport systems (think blue tanks and cassette toilets). I was writing articles for Pop Up Times back then and dealt with the Florida Department of Health on Pop Up Campers unique needs in this area. To be honest, they were wonderful to deal with and had no idea that there was a class of RVs that did not always have
  19. Well, I can answer these questions... The dutch oven is my wife's specialty, a sliced potato dish with lots of sharp cheddar cheese and copious amounts of bacon.... The other is bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapeno poppers. Each made with 1/2 jalapeno pepper made for just the right amount of kick. Yummy!!! Sorry, but i can't remember who made them.
  20. We have been camping for years, but this trip included four "firsts" for us. We left home Thursday after work and making sure we had everything in order. I had called the Wal-Mart in Trion, GA before leaving to verify that we could stop in the lot for a few hours nap. The manager couldn't have been nicer, not only letting me know we were welcome but also advising where to park. We left home at 7 and arrived at Wal-Mart at around 12:30. Google had called ti 4.5 hours, but obviously the mapping algorithm did not take my slow towing into account. The night at Wal-Mart (first for us #1) was
