  1. My DH & I did a date night dinner at Boma during our 2004 trip. We hit AK for rope drop, abandoned our kids with their grandparents, and took the bus to AKL right after the parade. We had the earliest dinner ressies we could make (5?) but still had time to go out on the savanna off the lobby & look around the pool area before we ate. We then took the bus to MK & met back up with everyone. It was a nice way to break up the day. Someday we'll get back there to see more......
  2. Thanks for another enjoyable trip report. We went to NO in 2007 for our anniversary. The end of the week there it was the French Quarter Festival. Food booths and free outdoor music venues (about 8-10) all thru the district. It was great. We never did try a po boy, though. Next time. POFQ would be next on our list of mods to stay at. We enjoyed PO Dixie Landings when we stayed there. We took my mom, so the trundle bed was great for one of the kids. At CSR there were just the 4 of us, but DS, then 13, slept on an air mattress on the floor. We had a pool view room there, an upgrade
  3. Maybe part of the problem is that the bus shelters are only on one side of the road, for each loop. You learn that if you want the bus going in the other direction, you need to stand on the other side of the road. And learn to read a map....
  4. I think it's funny that their theme was camping, yet they stayed GF concierge... only had to mingle with actual campers for one evening.. :/ Although if they had rented cabins or deluxe MHs would we have been complaining about site unavailability, etc.?
  5. Whew! All caught up. That sure was an awesome trip. With an awesome ending, staying at YC! As far as driving goes, how many hours is it for you all to get home? Here in the 'Burgh it takes us about 20, non-towing. I usually take my turn to drive during the afternoon hours. DH likes to leave 3 or 4 am. If and when we get a trailer, I'm planning on learning to maneuver on my own. Growing up, I was my dad's "assistant" when it came to hitching up and all. :)
  6. I've been following along, too, just remiss in checking in. I must say though, that my first thought, when I saw you had a new trip report was: "Again, don't you people ever stay home?" Not that there's anything wrong with that. lol I would love to abandon DH & head to the Fort with my DD. I know she would do it in a heartbeat. Alas, it's a little too far, and way too much $$$ for us now. Have fun!
  7. Thanks for moving this to the right place, Mo. Love the sunsets over the castle. And Dave, your cruise photo was one of the ones that spurred me to post the ones I got on our cruise. We didn't have the interesting clouds like you did.
  8. While reading through the fabulous trip reports everyone is doing, I started to notice that everyone always has pictures of sunsets. Now, I know I've not done a trip report myself, so this will be my contribution. Sunset photos from various places. Please add yours! First, Lewes, Delaware, on the canal. Assateague Island, MD Mackinac Island, MI Pymatuning State Park, PA looking towards OH. Chesapeake Bay, leaving Port of Baltimore Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda Chesapeake Bay, returning to the Port of Baltimore
  9. Thanks everybody for a fun night! I look forward to seeing more photos and videos of the epic fireworks tomorrow.....
  10. Oh wow, well, you need to. And for those already a fan of the movie, read the book, if you can find a copy. Lots of backstory that the author left out of the movie. (He wrote the screenplay)
  11. Maybe she meant for a private party. Yeah, surely not more than any of the "regular" fireworks shows.
  12. They obviously didn't take your excellent advice about coming to this thread.
  13. Following along & enjoying your trip. Now if only there were some pictures to go along with the narrative...........
  14. We like to leave around 3am too. Only our drive is about 20 hours. Isn't it great to drive while the kids sleep away in the backseat?
  15. Nice house in Key West. We visited for a day in 1994 when on a cruise. It was about 60 degrees. We need to go back someday when it's warm. Have fun and take lots of pictures over this 4th weekend. For 50% off, I think we'd ALL be there!
  16. Sure, you can get help from the front desk, but who would you trust more to help: a front desk flunkie or a Fiend? :)
  17. I would be worried about the boat, too. Maybe it's a feeling that the shoreline area is like common space? We had a similar circumstance last weekend at a state park campground. Here's looking at where we were able to pull our canoe in: And when it was half-way on solid ground, looking back at our site: There were guys in a site across the road from us who parked their fishing boat next to our canoe & walked around us to come & go. But one time there were 2 families who had kayaks that walked down & one of their kids ran along the shoreline chasing the Canadian geese
  18. Yes, that's my ship. I believe your cruise was a week after ours, and the Grandeur alternates itineraries. We went to Bermuda, the other week it does the Bahamas, with stops in Port Canaveral, Nassau and CocoCay, I believe. That NCL wasn't the Dawn, was it? It was in Bermuda when we were there.
  19. We cruised on the Carnival Triumph in 2002. It is (was?) fairly comparable to the RCCL Grandeur in both size and decor. I think the food was better on the Grandeur and we definitely had better servers, too. The Carnival did have the nicer pool area in that it had a 2 story water slide, and the RCCL had nothing extra in the pool area, but did have the climbing wall. I would rather sail again on RCCL than Carnival. But would really rather try a DCL :)
  20. Great photos so far. Love the sunrise shots. I never get up early enough for that. lol If anyone remembers, from the Cruises forum, I was just on the Grandeur of the Seas with my mother at the beginning of June. It is a sister ship to the Enchantment. It's interesting to see what changed when they did the enhancement. Here's the pool area on the Lady G (as she is called) And I agree about sitting in the Centrum. We spent a lot of time there. My mother and I would listen to the dance music every day before and after dinner.
  21. Well, let's see if this works. (Most of my good pictures are on facebook, but last time I tried to do this it didn't work....) Here's our new 4 man tent when it's just DH & me: at Little Pine State Park, PA Then when the kids are with us, we use the 8 man (for all 4 for us, lol): at Cook Forest State Park, PA
  22. Did I make page 3? Whatever, I'm just glad to be here :) looking forward to the cruise part of the trip. And pictures of cute girls...(that seems to be a thing around here)
  23. Kids usually have no trouble making new friends in playgrounds. They may not start out as fiend-friends, but might end up that way. Hope you have a great time!
