  1. This thread has really started some good discussions.. As i posted in another thread my wife has told me its time to start looking at a new camper something with bunk room for the family. All of my research has showed that most bunk rooms 5ers are going to be 2500lbs+ hitch weight. More than what my current truck is comfortable loading. So the talk is do we replace our 2012 RAM with 130,000 miles on it with a new truck. I've been looking and I'm not 100% sold on a new diesel truck. Most of our travel is north and south on 75, year there are some mountains in Southern Ky and Tenn bu
  2. This is one of our current fav floor plans. We looked at a Montana or Grand Design that had the mid bunk with a loft bed over it. But at 2000 lbs dry hitch weight we may be really close on our trucks cargo number :-/
  3. They currently have their photo satellite pass over every 3 or 4 months I believe, but if it passes over at night, or in cloudy weather they cant use the images. I know My house has updated 3 times in the last 18 months.
  4. We don't hate the bunk house, but with a 2 year old and a new born in planning we don't think we will "need" a bunk room for 4 or 5 more years, and it could be time for another new camper by then. The biggest problem we have with bunk house floor plans is the lack of windows in the family room / kitchen area. We camp at a lot of state and federal parks and love to see the out doors if we are stuck inside. We are also currently stuck looking at campers in the max weight range of 14,000 lbs due to limitations of our tv
  5. Those were the exact works spoken by my wife as we were headed home from a long weekend trip this last weekend. Currently we have a 2014 Keystone 333mks and we really enjoy it but since buying it our family has grown by one, and we hope to adopt a 2nd child this fall winter. In talking we dont think we want a full Bunkhouse trailer, but just something with bunk beds. A quick search really didn't find a floor plan we liked. Currently we have a 5th wheel and that works very well our how we operate. I can hook and unhook by myself as my wife tends to the boy at the playground. Not hav
  6. The one time i stayed at the fort we just packed up and took the camper to the over flow lot parked it and went in to MK for the day. Never even thought of asking for a late checkout.
  7. As someone who has recently taken a 1 year old to Disney and stayed at a Monorail resort you are making a wise choice staying so close to the MK. With my son we would get to the park early ride several toddler friendly rides, watch some shows then as the lunch crowed gathered we escaped back to the resort for a quick lunch then hour or so nap. Then after the nap back into the park for some after noon fun rides and shows.
  8. International started ford down the path to the top mounted oil filter. A lot of German cars are like that. That was one of the big hangups to the 6.0 Powerstroke it would get warm and melt the stem inside the filter cartage and cause all sorts of problems. My issue with a plastic oil pan its a insulator for heat, keeping the oil a bit warmer. Also its thermal expansion properties are different than that of a aluminum, or iron block so as it heats up and cools down it grows differently and that could cause oil leaks over time. As well as the above stated shop guy cranking down the oi
  9. To this day i remember my first trip to WDW and remember boarding the boat and thinking it was going to take hours to cross the lake.. Great pictures everyone.
  10. Keeping my Fingers Crossed they are breathing life back into Fort Wilderness Junction!! Fort Wilderness Junction Fort Wilderness Junction (also referred to as the Buffalo Junction Resort) was to be a 600-room hotel at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida between Fort Wilderness and Disney's Wilderness Lodge.[1] Plans for the hotel were announced by the Walt Disney Company as part of the "Disney Decade," an ambitious plan by the company to significantly expand and develop its theme park and resort properties in the 1990s. The hotel would have been similar to the Boardwa
  11. Yeah my Ram is pushing 325k miles. The drive line is great, but the seats are coming apart. The last trip the family took the wife looked at me and said No More Camping in a farm truck... I guess shes got a money tree stashed away for the 60k needed to buy a new truck.
  12. As someone who grew up going to Disney once every other year as a child I never knew why my father hated Disney parks so much (Turns out he hated crowds). Now that I'm a father of a almost 2 year old we've been to WDW twice with him and will be going again for 14 days for his 3rd birthday. Our 14 day trip is booked and we got a meal plan and 10 days of park tickets and for the 3 of us I didn't think the price was outrageous. Expensive, yes but not outrageous. My wife and I went to NYC for 6 days and spent more than what our total is for our trip to WDW, and I expect to pay $500-$800
  13. Not sure if anyone on this board has one of these trucks. I'm in the market for a new truck and was having drinks with a friend who works at a National Oil Change place and I asked his opinion of the Big 3 heavy duty trucks. Hes not a fan of Fords and how they build their engines, he says to many plastic parts that are high service parts (they have a rebuild able plastic oil filter) and he said the F150 with eco boost has a plastic oil pan with a plastic drain plug and if someone who doesn't know what they are doing changes the oil they could very easily crack the oil pan.. He also said
  14. After buying the Star Wars and Ghost Busters lets a month ago I told my wife I wouldn't buy any new lego sets until the Boy was old enough to help me build them. THEN this was released... NOT FAIR.. Fingers Crossed I'll get it for Christmas.
  15. Took some measurements, our current mattress in the trailer is about 6" tall, our extra queen mattress is 18" tall.. That could cause problems.. Thats a great idea... We have an IKEA about 20 miles north of us..
  16. I'm the same way. I always remind my wife, the vacation starts once the camper is hitched up, and it ends when its back in the barn safely unhitched.
  17. Thx for all the help, I'd like to use our old queen pillow top but there is no chance getting that in the camper. I'll look into those others, just wish you could test them out before buying but such is life.
  18. The family hitched up and took off for a 4 days mid week trip to a local state park this week. Came home this morning and both the wife and I decided "Its time to upgrade the mattress in the camper". Have any of you replaced the factory mattress with a upgrade or replacement? I know its not a real queen size mattress but something called a RV queen... We looked online and prices go from a few hundred to well over a thousand. Trouble is none of the RV centers around us have the mattresses on display so you can "test drive them". What are you using? BTW we tried a mattr
  19. I have no experience with the TT you are looking at, BUT, on a trip a few years ago we had several systems on our 5th fail (Fridge, AC unit). General RV was the only location near to where we were. I called them around 4pm to see if we could get it in for service sometime in the next week. The Service Center Rep told me to have it there at 9am tomorrow and they would assess the situation and see what they could do. We were there at 8:45, the service writer came out looked at the camper said the fridge and AC would be easier to replace than trouble shoot and had them swapped out befor
  20. If i see someone load up a washer and walk away, I take their stuff out and put mine in. Saves me the money. just kidding... or am I I would take someones laundry out and put it in a cart or on top of a broken washer. I dont leave the general area when I'm doing laundry
  21. My wife and I try to get rolling before 7am. We drive until my wife's bladder tells us it time to find a rest area, or Fuel stop if needed. If we are lucky we get 2 hours before this happens. Then stop again in another 2 maybe 3 hours for a lunch. We usually pack something and eat at a rest area, park and spend 1-2 hours stretching walking around or if its nice I've been known to close my eyes on the picnic blanket. We get back on the road, and most of the time we can make it to about 4 or 5 before stopping for the night with one bathroom break. I'm not a fan of 10 hour days on the
  22. It plays through with no cost. Its an interesting story, wish they would do a video so you can SEE the drawings and locations they are talking about. Sounds like there will be a part 2 to this podcast in the near future. BTW the original Walt Idea for the hoop-de-doo review sounded amazing with all the different areas and changing stage.
  23. My wife and I have stayed at the KOA in Sweetwater Ten several times for over night stays. Its very close to I-75 just south of Knoxville. They have very nice paved pull through spots for over night guests and the people running it are very friendly. http://koa.com/campgrounds/sweetwater/ When we are on the road looking for an over night spot we use RV Parks app. We try to stay at camp grounds as we are traveling with a little one so they like to swim, and run around and play when we stop. I've found the reviews on the RV Parks app are very telling.
